Need advice with buying a notebook.
I fell in love with the Lenovo X1 Carbon.
It comes with a FHD display, WQHD and a 4K OLED.

I thought about getting the 4K OLED to safe battery since I’m dev and everything is dark anyway.

However, the internet says, that using 4K, drains the battery quickly and for long battery life one should get the FHD.

So I wonder, which one has more impact: 4times the pixels or pixels just barley illuminated...
Maybe someone has experiences with that :)

    I think power consumption of 4K OLED with dark background will be pretty much the same as FHD.

    Dark on OLED consumes just as much energy as dark on a "regular" screen. Oled saves energy with complete blacks.

    I have even heard of OLEDs using more energy for the dark grays than the plain whites (not sure about the truths of that)

    Dark mode of the editor probably does not save much unless you are going full black.

    I have an Dell XPS 13 with QHD and Touch. I do net regret choosing this one compared to the FHD version - I was standing before exact the same decision. As @lamka02sk says, energy consumption is not quite high. Also, when using it for development most likely the ide you're using will take more than the screen when it comes to compiling etc. Mine holds quite long, so choose the 4K - the better resolution has more advantages, even when coding 🤗

    @Codex404 I've read that the difference between black and dark gray is minimal. I haven't measured it myself though.

    I ordered x1 carbon FHD yesterday (Canada), just received email today that ordered has been cancelled. Cc hold is still present. Now in doubt about after sales

    @StefanH non illuminated doesn't. Dark gray is illuminated.

    Like I said, I would never trade my 4K Display again. Not even for some more battery life.

    But as always, it depends. I am hooked up to the power brick nearly the whole day. So battery life is not that important to me if it is still >6h

    Might be different for for you - especially in a few months ;)

    @Rohr that's is one of the reasons I'm late with those things. Once you get used to it you can't do without it.

    @Codex404 I do understand that. It is really nice once you get used to it. But I bet it would be possible to get used to something different. But it is hard to force yourself to do that if you not really have to.
