it's even worse if your MD moves all the desks around every 6 months in the weekend and there is nothing you can say or do about it

I like office rooms with glass walls. That way, you can close the door and shut out the noise, but your not isolated as you'd be behind a closed door in a room with opaque walls.

Open floor plans are a Dilberesque cluster mess.

So what would be the best solution for, say a hot-desking office space for startups and freelancers?
