    Problem: a lot of totally incompetent web designers also do it this way. Ignoring usability research, accessibility guidelines, and of course the users.

    That's what gave us splash pages under the name of hero banners, thin grey fonts on white background, text over image backgrounds, scroll jacking, annoying animations like parallax.

    That's not even accounting for the technical incompetence of the average web designer, just the design incompetence.
