My team just spent all afternoon again their wfh setups.... They all use multiple monitors and laptops...

I never picked up on the idea though.., multiple screens always felt distracting...

To each their own. If having multiple monitors is distracting you, stay with one.

@Jilano well I was wondering how it's not. Multiple monitors == multi tasking?

And then u gotta move the mouse across 2 screens too?

@billgates multi tasking and/or following something like log files etc.
That way, you don't have to keep alt tabbing

When it comes to just relaxing though, I usually play on my main monitor and have a movie or something run on the other one.

Edit: Yes, you have to move your mouse (or use your keyboard only) to interact with the other screens, but that doesn't bother me too much since I like having high DPI.

Having multiple monitors is not about multitasking, it's about being more efficient. I keep my code in front of me and docs/other on my secondary monitor.

I had three monitors for a while. Three monitors are a little too much to keep work on so I just had Spotify/TeamSpeak/whatever on that.

Going from one to two monitors for me improved productivity very much.

@olback I always think of multiple monitors as work vs emails and messaging... Which would be really distracting

Then there's also alt+tab and screen management

Which screen should I put this window in?

Wait why isn't this window showing up, oh it's already on the other screen? Or oh wait that's another instance of the app?

I think I tried it once at work, we have dual monitors but couldn't figure it out so only use 1...

I cannot work without at least two monitors. On some tasks three make it much easier (e.g. to observe multiple longer-running scripts running in parallel). At home I have 4 (3+1 setup), though I rarely use the fourth.

It depends on what you work on.

@billgates If you're having trouble with multiple monitors, have you tried perhaps to get an ultrawide? The 21:9 format allows you to to put two windows side by side without any downside.
    Might be better for you

@Jilano don't have space at home. But when I did try it, the only set up I tried was work | outlook

I used 2 monitors for ages and now have a widescreen but it’s a long way to look at the edge and you have to turn your head more a 4K curved monitor is the way to go, keep wishing had a bit more height and width
