So I listed my old gtx1080 on eBay for $500

I got an offer of $640 from a profile that is brand new. They want to pay (a lot) extra for me to ship to Malaysia. Their profile says they are in the US.

The fuck kinda scam is this?

    Are they paying up front?

    "old GTX 1080"

    Oh no, so old

    I definitely wouldn't expect to get $500 for a 1080 non-ti.

@FrodoSwaggins I am sure it is a scam, I just wonder what they will do. Surely offer to pay by paypal and send me a fake confirmation or whatever.

I almost never sell on eBay

@SortOfTested Meh, fuck it, I'm not trying to move it. I'll lower the price once I get more comfortable with the idea of actually selling.

Honestly I love it but I know deep down I can't keep such an expensive think just for the looks and good memories.

    @AlgoRythm
My upgrade cycle is next year. Definitely making the RTX jump with the core count and ram on the 3080TI

@AlgoRythm They could pay you via PayPal and then claim that the card is either broken or never arrived, and rely on PayPal to fuck you.

100% scam before I got into tech I worked in PayPal fraud.

Refund the money and modifiy your auction so that buyers need a minimum feedback score and not international shipping.

You don’t how many people fell for the Nigerian Prince scam!

Let me know if you need help.

@jeeper thanks, that's what I was looking for

@olback It's been released more than 4 years ago, and a successor has been released almost 2 years ago - that definitely qualifies as somewhat old for a piece of hardware.

Could also be they will use a hacked credit card or PayPal account to pay, and once the fraud is discovered, you'll be out of your money and your item.
