Just got this coding task from a recruiter trying to determine what they want.
This for a front end job but we talked about api/network calls.
Are they just looking for the UI or do they want me to make the agency names dynamic through the different databases?
The recruiter is kind of clueless.
How would you approach this.11 -
Not a rant but sort of a rant.
Getting REAL fucking tired of the corporate rat race.
Thought Bubble ...
{If I quit this stupid job I could do freelance sites}
Then I realized that I have no idea what skill set it takes to be a freelance developer. I only know my one little corner. Once I commit my code it goes off down the assembly line for others to worry about testing, deployment, hosting, security and other things I have no idea about.
So tell me freelancers, is the grass greener? What additonal skills do you have to have the us enterprise folks would have no idea about?
Or are you making huge bucks where you overcharge for Wix sites that do not suck?10 -
OMG you fucking little cunt!
Previous issue with this co-worker we hate eat other but can maintain minimal contact due to covid. Last interaction was actually nice, we joked a bit.
He teaches me how to do the build and ‘updated’ the confluence page. By update he striked through one paragraph.
Been doing these for week and now others what builds done all the time and since I am not an asshole they can approach me to do this but now I spend all
day long doing builds.
Work on a classified app so it has to
be burned on a disk, taken to a ‘secret machine’ and deployed. Takes about an hour and people are like. Can you rebuild it? I forgot to commit something?
So I updated the page to flush out the directions. Did not remove one thing only added things simple things like do a ls -lah in the dist folder to make sure the are built correctly. Things like check to make the symlink works, bolded words.
He was not at standup so I figured he was out of the office today and was going to ask him to review tomorrow.
Fucker goes in to make changes while I am making changes and doesn’t think to msg me telling me?
He is removing things and moving things which is fine just let me know! What a dick!!!!!
Screenshot of all the activity today, I am
in blue. I will spend all day watching the page to make sure I get the last fucking edit!5 -
System Engineer who is adhoc scrummaster got all pissy when us devs did not transition their jira tickets when they merged with develop.
Jesus christ take five minutes, google it and figure out how to do it automatically and while you are add it add the fucking reviewers!
It’s a pain to do it each time!!!!
Fuck!!!!!!!!!!’2 -
Convo with me and my bestie trying to help him with sharepoint migration from Sharepoint 2010 to 365.4

Attending a virtual conference right now all the recruiter booths are just chatrooms which is super awkward because you are eavesdropping on other conversations. One guy went into all the rooms asking about H1 visa for I assume a family member with his video on and showing his extremely cluttered living room.
When I drop into one of the virtual booths two recruiters are talking about AI, one of the topics of the breakout sessions.
r1 - Whar is AI?
r2 - AI is creepy, like I was searching for rugs on ipad then was on my phone later and saw ads for rugs!!!! OMG so creepy! I am pretty sure this is AI.
No honey,
that is not AI.
My plan is to organize my books during this conference so at least I can win there.1 -
My mentor from my very first dev job. He was also a junior dev as well and used to say crazy things in conversations ar our desks like ‘The pope is the devil’ and ‘We are all going to get mouth herpes’.
I called him “Rogue { lastName }” because he used to dev in production like an animal.
He taught me a lot about coding though.
Miss that guy1 -
Blowing out your node modules is not the fucking answer to everything! All I did was accidentally sym link a package. But no you insist that I fucking delete them all even though I am at home on shitty wifi and going to fucking run ‘npm install’ a million times!!!!!!!
Then I did and getting weird handshake errors and you are not able to fucking help.
Fuck you idiot!2 -
Just moved from laravel/PHP to JS.
Now I find out their is PHP 8.
Everyone said this was going to be dead.

oh shit oh shit oh shit...
Do to my horrible anxiety about covid-19 I have not been calling into stands up in the last 2 weeks or doing much work.
My boss just messaged asking if everything is okay.
First msg I said yes and sorry was having techinal difficulty.
Then I msged him back saying it would better if we talked. I can see he is on a conference call so no response.
Should I be honest or list fake technical reasons?
He is pretty cool boss but only been there since October.11 -
Has anyone looked at the IHME curvefit project?
https://github.com/ihmeuw-msca/...
It’s the statical data model used by the whitehouse to make decisions regarding covid-19. Not a data analyst or python dev but this repo seems super sparse and only two people are doing most of the commits. I would think they would have more contributors.
Any data peeps want to weigh in?13 -
Felt like helping out a local brewery with a website due to the pandemic for free beer.
OMG feel like an idiot on how long it takes to set up static site from scratch.
Using the static site generator Hugo is easy but customizing the templates, content writing and the graphics are becoming such a fucking bitch! Especially the fucking graphics and not using photoshop but gimp. Is there something else do not want to learn anything else.
Not even to the hosting yet, I hope AWS for hosting static sites is as cheap as eveyone says. I know there is a learning curve but that is why I took this on so I would have experience with it and can out it on my resume.
New respect for free-lancers that do it all.11 -
What piece of shit coded this site?
https://freefilefillableforms.com//...
This is website people who did not file a tax return can use to get their stimulus check.
It’s not mobile friendly or even responsive in the least bit.
These people are poor and desperate and do you think they have laptop or desktops? No they use their phones.
You could have added some Flex box, now people are freaking out all over the internet.
Who the fuck would do this also this?5 -
Yes LinkedIn, the middle of a pandemic is the perfect time to make a career move.
Turn off your marketing campaigns assholes!5 -
Hardwares guys help a dumb dev out. Got my work station finally set up at home. This cord is attached my Dell Thunderbolt docking station.
If I lightly bump the cable the laptop or the desk I loose connectivity to my displays.
What can I replace this fucker with?10 -
What are some other cool jobs I can do in tech besides code?
I am hating development and the mass confusion.
backbone.radio is a node
package but ALSO and actual application for internet radio like real radio.
Is in the backbone.js documentation...NO!
It on the marionette documentation which is built on backbone.
Guess what’s hard to search for?
Fuck it man😵9 -
There are two jobs I would rather suck dick on the street than do.
Sharepoint developer
JIRA admin
What’s yours?17 -
Switched from php/laravel dev to frontend JS dev.
Decided to free up diskspace by uninstalling unneeded applications like MAMP, phpstorm and composer.
Feeling a little sad :/
Goodbye old friends since I spent 100 hours mastering you.11 -
I belong to a Javascript discussion forum on social media where people post dumb questions that have been answered a million times in stack overflow or ask ‘Can I learn {JS framework} without knowing JS? Only there to answer questions because I am 100 percent non-contributing idiot at my current job.
-
How does anyone wrangle all these fucking JS packages!
Trying to fix issue where a table overflow problem...only in firefox. Found a quick fix then discovered it does not work when there is an event with a handle.
So come to find out perfect scrollbar does not like flex nor firefox (the only browser for the end user)
Jesus christ I miss laravel. -
Just realized being a developer means fixing bugs that were caused by fixing other bugs that were caused by fixing the other bugs.3

Anybody else recently figure out that watching a 5 min tutorial on using a new tool/package/extension will save you hours of frustration?
-
Why is there always one asshole!
New job just a month in, had a meeting where we could bring up improvements and put them on cards.
I brought up the idea of using slack so we could collaborate better or maybe a collab space. We all have our own offices or share with high walls.
The guy running the meeting has the same title as me said we never had that before, are you unhappy with yiur onboarding?
Slack or a messaging app is industry standard for even none tech companies. I was polite and said it was just a suggestion and it might make it easier to get help for the new people if there is a group chat.
Also brought up using a formatting standard so code reviews are spent commenting on spacing. I said we could you prettier to implement that and just pick a standard.
He said that was an issue because people were not paying attention before they pushed the code.
I am sorry I am new so I am rewriting and rewriting code all the time. I was to format on save and not spend time fucking formatting!
I could use a package before since it I formatted it would look like a bunch of fucking changes in git.
Why make things harder? Part of the meeting was how to get code done and PR’ed faster so it gets to the testers. Autoformatting shit would help.6 -
Does anyone else work for a DoD contractor? I am totally incompetent at my job and was wondering how long it would take for them to fire me.
I heard it’s harder since it’s a DoD contractor.
Not sure if I oversold myself in the interview of what but boy do I need a lot of help.10 -
Asking for a friend....
New job, fairly new to web development, very new to JS. I am failing miserable at my job can’t complete tickets which are mostly bug fixers created by testers. So I am debugging code that I didn’t write on a tech stack I do not know (ampersand, q, radio, lodash, react, etc)
Do I try to learn the language better?
or
Focus on learning debugging with dev tools and getting better at using the webstorm IDE.7 -
In a job that I am WAY over my head. Onboarding is a shitshow like usual the devs did not know I was starting until the day before. My only real expierence is school doing php/laravel. Very honest in my interview only a year of codecamp at a local community college and very small tasks at my old job.
This is a JS app using a bunch of old frameworks/ libraries. I was told it was React in the interview.
How long until they fire me for being i competent?
In the US and working for a defense contractor. Which I was told it was harder to fire people.
3 mos? 6 mos?5 -
Getting used to using ubuntu on virtual box. Responsiveness is slow as fuck and I have 128gb of RAM. Spent all last week configuring my box and sublime text in order to have to set up a new one due to repo issues. Any advice?6
