Rant! The reason. Software engineers have to take test just to get a job. Is cause there are to many hacks out there.

Me. Did you read the schematic did you see the gpio that enables the JTAG needs to be asserted to debug.

THING 1: What's JTAG debugging
THING 2: No just debug using the software.

Me: enable the JTAG or it won't work

Face palm I am so tired of helping people. We just hired who where supposedly real engineers

In every other profession there are standards. You don't see any self taught surgeons.

Regardless of whether or not you went to school you're self taught as far as programming goes.

@harleywewax really do you see any self taught mechanical engineers or architects or Electrical Engineers generally no but every high school kids thinks there a hacker and can design software systems. I'm not talking script kiddies making Web pages for there mom's cupcake business. I'm talking about. Code that's optimized that needs full decision coverage to guarantee we don't kill any one code. Or at least don't kill the wrong someone.

I said as far as programming goes lol. What kind of fancy uni did you go to all mine ever taught me was to Google effectively and read slowly.

@harleywewax not fancy school this started cause I'm just annoyed with the the guys I work with. A few of them never went to college and there code sucks

Haha it's my worst fear for someone to tell me my code is terrible, like actually.

Personally, I stay sceptical of anyone boasting about their education over others. Sounds like a cover up of insecurities. But that is just me.

    @mlem who's boasting

@edisonn if I could hump this post I would

Uni generally teaches almost nothing relevant to working in the industry, good programmers really are self taught. We all have to learn constantly and for many, that's why they enjoy the job. ☺

@kvsm OK in this field of continuous learning we all need to be able to teach ourselves things. My real thoughts are about the discipline of engineering and doing the things that are needed to not be a hack. How many of you just sit down and start typing away trial and error. Not commenting. Unable to read an api and or create one that could possibly be used by others.
    Task:
    Condition:
    Standard:

Having the ability recognize a good design .

These are the things needed to be a good engineer.

When I first started we where required to share our engineering notebooks with the senior Engineer. Whoa to the engineer who could not explain why he was doing something or what the reason for each line of code was. Hell some guys made me do the calculations by hand before even writing a line of code. I even had to use a slide rule in front of them and demonstrate consistent logical thinking.
A formal education teaches you how to think and organize not write code. That's what contractors

You need to go read The Tao of Programming, your ideology is so rigid. People from all knowledge backgrounds have something to contribute not just the hoity toity engineers of the bunch.

@harleywewax I have read it. But I plus you up for your sudo science. Culture Bull. I prefer The Art of War

Haha ur a bit too intense for me my friend but I enjoy the art of War as well. Life is about balance
