I never understood the "No machine heavier than air can fly" thing. I mean, even for their time, that must have been fucking retarded. Birds just float??
-
@AlgoRythm The concept that machines can replicate whatever life can do became popular during the 20th century.

On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin formed the American crew that landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969
That is 65 years, 7 months, 4 days between the first powered airplane flight and the moon landing. Which is within a person’s lifetime. -
@bkwilliams I thought we all agreed the moon landing was fake though 😂
In all seriousness now, I'm honestly disappointed in my forefathers for some of these quotes. What's that line the wizard guy from Skyrim says? Something about fools and lack of experience? -
Jedidja10064y@AlgoRythm might be "heavier than air machines" in comparison to hot air baloons and such. And just because birds can do, doesn't mean it has to be feasible for an engineer. Cause airships were already a thing at that time iirc
I completely agree! Absolutely nooo reason anyone would want a computer in their house.
