some dev asked in group chat if the connection between HOST1 and HOST2 is blocked on the firewall.
They're are sitting in DMZ and intranet ... of course one direction is blocked
I asked for details, he wants to SSH from the one sitting in DMZ to the one in intranet (which is a docker host btw)

Making GitLab Ux useable?
We're using GitLab mainly for issue tracking (lots of DevOps, Ops, Oops otherwise), however I find it a bit cumbersome that there's no central way to interact with them.
I have to click through groups and projects to find issues and then go back and forth between the list and each item.
Anybody got suggestions? Am I missing sth? is there a plugin or 3rd party thing?
I just wanna see all issues in the company and quickly check what needs to be done where
We could use sth. else entirely but we currently have so many tools with overlapping features that it would feel kinda stupid2 -
so part of the whole xz backdoor debacle involved some sock puppet named "kumar"?
like from the famous "kumar-asshole.sh" script that's part of the "we cleaned after our build engineer and look what scripts we found" legend?
good one4 -
content creators these days really know how to get their audience to piss off.
was reading a certain comic artist and on e v e r y page (a page is like 5 strips) sometime midscroll the infamous email subscription dialog appeared and covered half the screen. ofc with a sliding effect so you can't even close it immediatly.
Tried entering a BS adress - still appeared again
why can't more comic sites be like xkcd's or swordscomic?1 -
caught in the loop of trying to get into a certain field but not being able to get a job to gain experience because I lack experience in that field
FML
on to writing more applications I guess2 -
today I learned that there are actually two ways how you can wire a RJ45 socket (wifi cable)
today was also a longer day than planned ...11 -
applying for a job at a company whose website is broken is kinda ironic
Todays gems are
- the menu item jobs isn't clickable. I have to find a link elsewhere
- the application form has a second page a "this is what you entered" page. It switches month and day of my birthday. I returned to first page to check. Here it's still fine. Now I needed to reupload my attachments because the "field is empty" - lets see if they get my CV twice
- the jobs page doesn't even load. firefox eventually prompts "This site is slowing down the browser ... [stop]"6 -
I know "windows 10 bad" rants already have been done enough and are kinda redundant at this point.
But it's so frustrating for me when doing event stuff.
like yesterday during a quieter part I wanted to pull a USB thing. I knew I've turned of system sounds at least two times one this machine last year and sureley it didn't turn them on again, that'd be silly ...
"de dung"
shit!
And today I did some stuff and realized somehow the energy settings are at "balanced".
In the past I had went through every neccessary box to go Full Power, checked every neccessary box, but nOOooOo - lets randomly be balanced again. WTF?
And it's not like shit didn' work already - I remember the times when bluetooth actually was intuitive to use and settings didn't randomly change - is that what they think " progress" means?4 -
ugh. my isp apparently doesn't allow to change DNS in its routers. what a load of bullshit.
Internet has been really flakey lately because of this11 -
fuck me.
it's monday and to start in a new project I'm reading a paper my boss once wrote.
It's the worst I ever seen - stop using so much smart words and stop introducing fuckin smart math notations everywhere!!!
That fucker reads like a pretentious science lecture an my poor simple village brain doesn't like it6 -
ugh what have I done to myself?
Today I started this codingame thing someone mentioned on here, but because I'm stubborn I've played every puzzle or game in bash so far...
So yeah, I'm loosing to all the cool kids using C++ or python even on simple stuff and I'm always struggling with this weird syntax - like "$" or not ... whitespace? parenthesis?
I mean I do like some bash but these games are really not made for it4 -
I'm bored.
Waiting on people to answer and on software to finish running ... again.
What do?
I've started viewing CMake tutorials on YT, played that interactive git 'game', read some SO topics and archWiki entries.
Just struggling with concentration and getting myself to wanting to concentrate.
Oh and I'm almost finished with XKCD
Any tips how to spend waiting time useful but interesting/catching?7 -
pros of working on a full C++ project:
Time to browse XKCD while it is building to fix a small bug my predecessor made. -
Stepping through the source code of a no-code-graphical-programming-tool (or however you call that) to understand why my stuff isn't doing its thing or at least see what it wants from me.
Very intuitive1 -
Bossman told me to give my project more hierarchy and to add all those weird __init__.py files.
I don,t quite like all those boring empty files, so anyone got some bri'ish language "innit?" jokes or other awful puns to add as comments?8 -
I dun goofed
made a neural net that runs against a simulation. Wanted to run it overnight to get some meanigful stats and insights
But yesterday afternoon I changed something in the simulation and ofc tested it without the nn ... and then forgot to put it back on
So while I expected to come in today and start plotting and analyzing the data while the runs finish, in reality I'm sitting here on a lot of useless data, not knowing what to do.
I kinda want to just start it again and go home7 -
can we agree that T is a dumb variable name?
I mean I totally know what it means in that instance, but why do people keep writing math stuff like they'd skribble it on paper?8 -
y'all got any markdown programm recommendations?
Someone (maybe on here) said they use MD for everything instead of word.
Now I wondered, which programm works well for that? Word or a full IDE seems kinda overkill
thnks10 -
computers are fuckin weird sometimes.
Was just playing some hacking game, where each level is it's own user, acessed by ssh.
And suddenly copy-pasting passwords when prompted doesn't work ...
like, I can paste it in my terminal to see it, it can manually type it ... but I can't paste it into the prompt anymore.
It always worked until today, I could swear that!!
Why not today?2 -
Opinions on buying an old unsupported android phone?
Say I'd buy a galaxy S7 thats no longer supported or even an S8 that soon will be unsupported and don't plan to use a custom ROM.
How bad would that actually be?
I know it'll lack security patches, but how risky is that?7 -
Oh fucking hardware virtualization.
how many times have I failed at setting sth up googled it and just read "check your BIOS ... and enable..."
Well I would IF I FUCKING COULD. THERE AIN'T NOTHING TO ENABLE ON THIS CHEAP CPU.
I know. I know. Should just get a newer setup, this lappy ain't that powerful anyways - but still - it's frustrating to get excited, start sth and than hit that dead end realizing they presupposed sth I don't have.5 -
Who the fuck decided it would be a good idea to have the FAQ entries show up part by part sliding into existance as you scroll?
I just wanted to scan over it to find the link to the webapp that wasn't provided elsewhere (everywhere just infos about features - c'mon!)
don't load that shit like its 2003!1
