Devrant is turning into 9gag

Maybe require 2 to 4 weeks membership before permission to post images? 🤔

I think if you have too many down votes in a week you should be temporarily banned from posting pictures. I too agree there are way to many repetitive ranty images. I also think there are too many people who down vote legit rants

@jw56578 you can't be serious. You complain about reposts and yet you post a screenshot where it's clearly visible that you don't have "hide reposts" enabled? Just ridiculous.

@inpothet come on. Complain about content and then your last rant is a screenshot of upvotes you've gotten?

I have no problem with people complaining and being constructive, but baseless complaining and pointing the finger at others is just silly. It starts with the quality of the content you post.

And just to be clear - I'm calling out your last rant because of what you said. I have absolutely no problem with it. devRant is supposed to be an app to have fun on but some people want to try to dictate what kind of content other people are allowed to enjoy/post. It pisses me off.

A lot of images get posted because people enjoy them and upvote them. There's no more, in terms of percentage, images posted now than there was 4 months ago. If people didn't upvote them then they would be posted less.

Also, we specifically launched our "stories" feature to make it so you can just read rants if you want.

@philcr not a bad idea but the fact is very few images get many downvotes. And they do get a lot of upvotes. So that wouldn't help too much.

@dfox I'm generally not to fussed by the textual content being a bit repetitive "I'll even admit a couple of my rants have had a theme" but there are quite a lot of pictures that I've seen a lot since joining. You are however best placed to see the stats. Keep up the good work!!!

@philcr thanks. If you haven't already, I definitely encourage you to enable "hide reposts." It should vastly cut down on repeat images you see.

Part of the issue with reposts, and what has always been the issue, is even images that are reposts are often popular so we don't want to eliminate them completely. The other issue was that while our algo learns the kind of content you like, people who sometimes say they don't like images a lot tend to upvote many of them making it difficult for the algo to actually learn in that respect.

@dfox true true but you get what I mean, I love dev rant but I have seen same image posted 3 times. But I still love it. I agree I made a post about the upvotes I thought it was funny it also happened to me.

And sorry I didn't mean it in a negative way (also a 9gag user) I will always love devrant if I didn't I wasn't here anymore. You made the first community I feel at my place and where I actually stayed for longer. I really didn't mean it in a bad way.

@dfox just found the switch to turn of reposts ty for it and sorry for the attack.
And I'm not saying kill the repost or trying to dictate what people can see or not see, I just noticed it but should have reworded it instead or the "it's turning in to 9gag" that was a bad thing to say I should have Sayed something like "I get a lot of reposts on my feed even a image a couple of times" again sorry
