Shutting down my company 😔,

Can't do it anymore, trying to do the best work for shit pay.

Clients haven't paid... Now I doubt I can even find 10 quid literally don't have 10 quid to my name right now 😔.

Burnt myself out ... I can't even concentrate on my work cause I'm stressing on everything...never ending spiral.... 😢

Going to just get a normal job ... Just lucky I have parents to go back to.

Running a dev company... Really amazing when things go well, it's unexplainable in fact but... Devastating when it doesn't 😞

You know when you break up with a girl you've been with for ages... Like how horrific ... That can be... This is literally worse .. I didn't think it was even possible...

Hey, you had the balls to try it in the first place. Get a regular job and some rest, travel a bit, and relax. Enjoy your life, and maybe later in your life you wanna go at it again :)

    Here, have a beer.
This is to you mate! Stay strong.

Those things always eat money, and when there is no money for you to eat, they eat your soul.

You got the guts to try, that's huge friggin' balls. Enjoy your new relaxed life and if you later feel stronger, you know, try again and finish your project :)

Try continuing. Try making mor solid contracts and sue whoever wants not to pay.

@FitzSuperUser I have been running my studio now for over 3 years it's still tough, but very rewarding! There are ups and downs when running the business and if you get cash flow right things just get better. Always put a contract in place even if it's family and friends etc also setting up milestone payments will help alot. Even at the 2 year mark when the experts say your business has made it I was still having bad periods where I couldn't afford anything but a loaf of bread. I really wish you the best I have been there and I am in it now so I totally understand! I would keep at it because it's often the case when you feel like giving up something just pops up and your back in business :)

@DevDangerous that does make me feel better, thank you...

@FitzSuperUser Your health is most important. You can't do a decent job anywhere if you're exhausted. Best of luck!

There's a decent book called The E-Myth, talks about the difference between being a technician and being a small business owner. Very different skill sets. If you love baking pies, opening your own bakery doesn't always make sense as now you're also a manager, a marketer, an accountant, a sales person, etc. Great if you can grow fast enough to start delegating, but rough going if you can't.

If you got your folks to go back to, ask them if you can crash there rent free for a while. It'll give you breathing space to collect those invoices.
Cash flow is always an issue working for yourself.
    Wish you the best mate

Ey man seek and find solution, cause it's always there! Back in a day I came at your profile I was like he is 20 years in tech , I said wow what a veteran. Today I can see that I was wrong, be brave to not stop easily if there is too big obstruction just give up to solve it by yourself and ask how to solve it, I mean on good places. This year I lost my good friend 23 as me, he had his own restaurant Mercedes and debts Then came suicide , but I know his family well and they would help him . It's nature of men that we are not created to live just for ourselves and I am pretty sure a lot of people are just waiting to see if they can help.

Whoever you are, listen to me. You fucking got this. Don't quit now. You will regret it later. Figure out what meditation really is and do it every day for 2 minutes. It's like an auto sort and focus for life. You will be really happy and proud you did it. Just don't give up. Not now. Not ever.

There is a lot of great advice here. Here's my 2 bytes.

Take some time to be objective and look at everything outside the lens of frustration, the pressure of struggle, and the waves of anxiety. I am sure you have built a lot worth fighting for. Success at the end of the day is adaptation and never quitting. If you do decide to make a change, whatever you do next will also take a lot of adaptation and not quitting to be successful.

    Can do. Will do.

    console.log("don't lose faith, fix your life and bounce back:)");

Consider your entire life, from birth to death, as a straight line. This episode is just a small part of that line. Be optimistic about all that life you're yet to cover, all the new opportunities that you can't yet see, and all the skills and wisdom you've acquired a long the way.

Can't remember who, but someone once said "nothing sucks so bad that you can't learn from it". You'll make better decisions as a result of this, which means better chance of success in the future.

When you have a moment of calm and a few bucks to spare, I'd recommend buying yourself a bottle of your favorite, and toasting to opportunity.

Hey bro, just my own piece..my company is even in debt and am not quiting it. Do you know why? Because I can do it. Not just I, I got people like you and others on devRant who use their daily falls and successes to keep pushing me up. And most of all, I believe in God. With Him all things are possible. So this aint season to loose faith, jump up out of your bed every morning, hope for the best, give it your best..if it doesnt work, learn from it and if it works, rejoice and loop the process one more time to get proficient at it. Perhaps, you are doing something wrong, ask ppl here, they are highly resourceful. Wish you best of luck.😎😉

Honestly I'm impressed by the fact that you actually started your own company o.O To me that is a risky move and everyone who does that is an inspiration to me and potential future employers will certainly not overlook this fact. I have no doubt an ambitious person like yourself will find a job you are pleased with! Maybe running your own company was not the best thing for you right now. You've probably learned a lot from the experience, and I hope you can go on and do other cool things soon. Stay awesome!

    Don't give up!
My first job was in a small company, everything was ok at first, amazing atmosphere to work etc. But then a concurrent doing the exact same thing came in the market and we've lost a lot of clients. No more money, sometimes no salary during 2-3 months. But some people stayed optimist, I tried to do the same and don't think about this econimical crisis as an insolvable problem but a great challenge. From a team of 1 PM and 5 devs, we were only 2 devs at the end. I stayed 3 years in that company before it finally closed, but as a first experience I could not dream better, now the others job look so simple. I can handle the everyday pressure so easily because I knew so much worse situations...

    Hey.

    1. Stop everything and re-evaluate
Why are you stressed? Non payment? Projects too hard? Not enough staff to cope? Bad tech? Shitty clients?

    2. Draw out ideal processes, tools, clients, contracts and monetary goals as milestones. Use Trello.

    3. Make small changes towards each milestone and no matter what - do not deviate. You will lose clients, staff and maybe money at first.

Once you start re-aligning with a solid structure/plan. The control will reduce stress. Stress nearly always relates to a lack or percieved lack of control.

Use contracts. Over quote on time, NEVER release code before final payment (show clients on local machine or your own server if needed). 50% up front, rest in equal increments at agreed milestones.

Rest. If you are working all night you either have a bad plan, or are not been honest re your abilities.

Dont be afraid to charge alot. Clients would have to pay if they went elsewhere so dont undersell your time.

Run out of chars ;) la la la la la la!!

If this works out the next few days I certainly will be carrying on !

Great feedback from potential clients *fingers crossed*
