Watching the Social Dilemma. Interesting quote.

Anyone else seen it? or addicted to social media?

I'm wondering maybe because we're all tech... we sort of develop a natural immunity? or is it just me that has all social media apps' notifs turned off?

And rarely use social media... except devRant.

I watched the movie and I think way more people should watch it as well.

But how do you know that you got it in your suggestions because, well... You actually would have liked it?

@theabbie like u start a video and keep going with autoplay? or u just follow to many channels?

Only time i watch youtube is if i search for a specific video.
Havent watched any videos from the home page in awhile...

@dmonkey got it in my suggestions? Oh you mean Netflix...
or whatever streaming service made it...

Well lets just say thats not where i got it from..

@donuts Videos from specific topics, but yes, the one's recommended by YouTube, it's bad, but the videos are good too. Not addiction, I can control when to stop.

@theabbie if you can control it its fine. i think this is more like... where'd "all myh free time go?"

Although i still ask that alot but the answer is not social media.

@donuts That's why I like a busy lifestyle, When things happen you can't waste it in social media.

@donuts I just woke up and english is not my native language, I suspect I wrote last comment like shit 😂

@dmonkey the guys examples about how theyre addicted seem sorta overkill... like a CEO or a techie that addicted feels sort of like they're trying to emphasize the the point rather than then actually behaving that way...

You create the feature that manipulates the behavior but then u fall prey to it urself and cant stop... really?

@theabbie well being budsy all the time aint good either. Tery to relax more, maybe some mindfulness. meditation... self-reflection time... time to just think...
  • 1
@donuts It does not seem impossible, perhaps at some point after developing said feature they just let themselves go and fell victim of their own creature...

Or maybe they were just telling some friend's experience
  • 1
@dmonkey yea but if u develop a feature u can undevelop it if u want.

I mean I've had FB on my phones since forever, but i dont use the official FB app... i use a simplified one that removes all the noise.

And actually I did install the official app recently as wanted to see if it was worth using now.... the menus are bloated, the screens are bloated with posts from people and feeds i dont even know or want to know...

How can you get anything useful out of this app...

I watched it too, made me realize I hate instagram but kept using it, so I stopped. Now I'm trying to stop watching youtube as much as I do, it's such a waste of time.

That's a very interesting quote btw, changed a bit the way I think about social media.

@neeno Go for it, Niño! You could start by login out of your account, and if you want to keep your "subscription" to certain channels, just use the RSS

@F1973 it's 3am and I'm only halfway thru... Though got distracted a lot with these comments.

Social media can bugger off. Just give us a brick phone with contacts and SMS and watch the (west) world mend.

@F1973 ahh... So much for finishing it today. Was sorta busy and then got chatting on Facebook tonight...

Now it's time to shower and sleep... Monday... let's just hope it's not as stressful/busy this week...

    @F1973 whys that?

@F1973 yes the guys look pretty young or rich I guess. Not sure about hipster.

But yes I thought it was interesting to watch what these former higher up are saying? Though I watch at 2x so maybe makes them look funnier.

Took these screenshots to get the captions to send to a friend last night

@F1973 It's far from being perfect, but if it allows few neophytes in the field to get into it, it's worth a shot. People are lazy by nature so you have to cater to them on *their* platform if you want any chance at a positive response.

You know, that whole "small step in the right direction is better than no step at all"?

It didn't have anything that wasn't already known, but I found in interesting and can see why they went for the approach of dumbing it down for the masses.

All in all, it's pretty good for what it is, it's a shame it probably wont get the views from the masses it deserves though.

    But 🤷‍♂️baby steps right?

    @F1973 @C0D4 Agreed

Also: "Baby steps doo doo doo doo... Baby steps!"
