I just told mine "it helps block ads and malware" when explaining what PiHole is and she was like "okay 🤷".

@bittersweet yeah, problem is in my field she thinks I should just know where the data goes.
And since my response is always, “I don’t effing know” she thinks it’s me that’s up to something. (Prolly porn) I once pulled up wireshark just to show her how much data that was to parse... I don’t think she believes me.
At the same time, it’s probably the kids... they stream and FaceTime more... but I don’t want to throw them under the bus without evidence.
So a few hundred bucks later we are finally going to get to the bottom of this EMPERICALLY! -
@HiFiWiFiSciFi Haha I meant it more like "our data might go to Facebook, or the NSA, or the Chinese/Russians, who knows"
But you meant data caps... Fuck those. Yeah, best you can do is a raspberry pi which meters all connections in the house, and give every device a static IP. -
Yes, for women, many things can be complicated and incomprehensible. I had this when my wife tried to choose a burglar alarm system for us at home. Naturally, nothing came of it. But I was able to find Ajax, and I was very happy about that, because with this system you can not worry about your apartment and its safety. All data transmitted by motion sensors via the Jeweller radio protocol is protected from hacking by block encryption with a dynamic key. The system is protected from sabotage: when you try to remove the sensor from the SmartBracket mount, users and the security company will receive notifications.
Me, explaining to my wife the difference between WiFi and Cellular as I explain why I need put the Pi from that other thread between our modem and router (and take our WiFi down) all so I can finally answer her repeated questions of "Where is all our data going???"
