    Hook, line and sinker.

Storage doesn't pay for its self, plus that new 15GB is atrocious, considering people would have dumped entire photo libraries into it.

But on the other hand $2 for 100GB is a hell of a lot better then $2.99 for 50GB Apple generously gives.

To be fair, samsung and other vendors should be taking care of their customers. Expecting google to provide it to every android user is overreaching.

@jak645 That has changed now, it was unlimited prior to this, so, the advertisement isn't false.

@theabbie When we say a lifetime of memories, we really mean it," Google said when it launched the Photos service in 2015.

Im not dead yet ... I think 🤔🤪

@C0D4 agreed that servers don't pay for themselves but then why advertise it for free?

The whole point of tracking and selling you is to generate revenue to pay for data centres.

Slowly they are losing at their own game and are forced to find alternatives for sustenance.

    Funny how system cleans itself.

@F1973 the cleaners will come, and the cleaners will rip you apart. It's only inevitable.

As for why advertise for free and stop?
It sounds like a dodgey marketing ploy gone bad.

Reading up on this though, it seems existing photos/videos already uploaded won't count towards the quota though. So... it's get as much as you can in, then deal with the cap on top.

@C0D4 and they give a 7 month runway for that? Lol

It's not marketing gone bad. It's Google starting to realise that they are not going to survive longer with free models.

Moral of the story: when a service promises something, expect it to change tomorrow.
