Hey dude, what do you use as hardware in general? I get the feeling that those prebuilt NAS are more expensive than they need to.

@darksideplease Old pc a friend gave me. On my NAS there is (or will be later this day) i5 750 2.4GHZ, 16 GB Ram, a motherboard, a graphiccard, 15 TB = WD Red 3TB*5, OS = FreeNas

My main server = Runs minecraft (backups to NAS), GitLab EE (backups to NAS and two other local HDDs), Plex (loads homevideos from NAS), Webservers (clones websites automatically from GitHub, backups config to NAS), CPU = 2 * Intel Xeon 5650 (i think) á 4 Cores á 2.93 GHZ * 2 (Hyperthreading), 16GB Ram, 250GB Samsung 850SSD, two IBM 150 GB HDD, Os= Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Server

@darksideplease Basicly any PC build in the last 10 years is able to be a better NAS than the offtheshelf shit if the software config is good and linux used. Then only NFS, Samba, your HDD and NIC decide your performance.
