The answer to all your questions: mathematics. Programming can vary, but the underlying principles of logic and type theory will stay the same.
Plus if you're looking to go into AI, then you're going to need a ton of calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics. Group theory and measure theory are (highly recommended) bonuses.
