When I Googled a problem I faced, and found a YouTube video solving it, then tried to thumb 👍 it up, but YouTube said: "You can not like your own videos!"
.
.
I recorded it for a friend two years ago!9 -
When people tell me their problems I immediately start coming up with solutions when really they just want sympathy.15
-
FUCK PEOPLE ON STACKOVERFLOW ANSWERING JAVASCRIPT QUESTIONS WITH FUCKIN JQUERY SOLUTIONS! IF I EVER WANT JQUERY I WILL TELL YA!
NOW GTFO AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!!!15 -
We should create
a `make` command
that auto-fixes building problems
by recursively trying solutions
found on stackoverflow.17 -
Manager: Have you fixed the problem?
Dev: What’s the problem?
Manager: We’re not here to discuss problems we’re here to discuss solutions!
Dev: …11 -
I am a programmer, and if you ask me to fix your pc, I accept the challenge... After all, I can Google a problem and implement a solution like no other, you are right to have come to me.5

Boss asked one of our senior Linux engineers to look into an issue. When restarting a service, the person renting the server would get the errors e-mailed which occurred during the restart (it wasn't reachable so the service trying to reach it would throw errors).
Although this was very expected behavior, the client found it unacceptable! Boss asked the engineer to look into this while acknowledging that it was probably an impossible task except for if you'd just disable logging but then all debug info would be gone which we frequently use to debug stuff ourselves.
After two minutes:
E (engineer): fixed it.
V (boss): wait, WHAT? HOW?! I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND A FIX OR WORKAROUND FOR AGES!
E (with the mist nonchalant/serious face): I disabled the log mailing in the configuration.
B: 😶
B: .
B: .
B: .
B: 😂
Everyone was laughing. The client thanked us for 'solving' it xD6 -

Manager: Absolutely everything must be done with libraries, vanilla JS solutions are absolutely prohibited!
Manager: Why is our app so slow to load? Is there a library we can install to speed the loading up?7 -
My job is pretty close to ideal.
-manager is technical/proficient
-hardly any meetings
-I'm trusted to design solutions to problems
-I'm trusted to implement those solutions
-Discretionary time off
-Decent pay
-We make cool technology7 -
(Meeting with Client)
Client: The script you sent us is broken... It can't run... We can't test now. (Their supervisor even insinuated that I did that on purpose :/ What?!)
Asked for logs, googled for solutions. Moments later.
Client: Oh it's our server's problem.
:/1 -
Never underestimate the power of developers on stackoverflow.
If you forget a single restriction they will find solutions that perfectly match your question but not your problem.3 -
By teaching students how to learn computer science first. Spending more focus on analysing problems, and creating solutions than spending time on language syntax which they can probably watch in videos at home.
-
do you ever get that feeling when you suddenly wake up from sleep and immediately have the solution that has been bothering you for weeks or is it just me?
it happened to me today. woke up and magically had a solution to a problem I had with unity (it works now).6 -
Taking a dump and showering are my number one non dev activities. They help to clear your head and when your head is empty you will get the best ideas and solutions.4
-
Am I the only one who figures out solutions to complex issues only when peeing, bathing or taking a dump? 😂8
-
Oh you want my homework Solutions?
WELL NO! YOU WONT GET MY SOLUTIONS YOU PRICK! YOU ALWAYS TREAT ME LIKE A PIECE OF SHIT! I WONT GIVE IT TO YOU!!
AND I DONT FUCKING CARE ABOUT YOUR SHITTY GRADES! THEY ARENT MINE! AND YOU KNOW WHY?! BECAUSE I DO MY FUCKING HOMEWORK AND IT PISSES ME OFF TO ALWAYS GET REQUESTS FOR MY FUCKING SOLUTIONS! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, PUT IT IN A BAG AND TAKE IT TO THE SHIT STORE!
WHY?!
BECAUSE I DONT CARE! THATS WHY! DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
AND MAKE GOOD GRADES!
BYE!!5 -
Yesterday ... well no, today it was, I couldn't go to sleep because my brain couldn't stop thinking about solutions for this problem I had and I literally got up from bed and went to my computer to test my ideas. It still didn't work and eventually I got so tired that I went back to bed, I was still thinking about solutions when I fell asleep.12

Qualifications and experience require to start a WordPress consultancy/brand agency:
• Be a marketing/people person.
• No technical requirements required.
Hate seeing others get clients and delivering half-assed solutions and deploying outdated and even insecure versions of everything.5 -
When you're working on a very complex client/server project in 7 open Solutions and changes in about 100 classes and your project manger gives you a "very important text align issue" that you have to fix immediately 😒1

I enjoy reading the rants. I also enjoy seeing how some rants end up with solutions from fellow developers who have had similar experiences. It's a huge reason I love our industry. Keep kicking ass everyone.

It's surprising the times I actually become lazy to code:
It's not when I need to probe the problem to figure out possible solutions, but rather when I know exactly what the solution is, but will require tons of code.5 -
Story: A sudden pleasant realisation about myself...
Realized today that I have reached a level of Developer I always wanted to have reached.. A junior forgot his mouse, I gave him mine and took out old trusty hacky scroll from the cupboard, the junior brought batteries as a thank you, I told him thanks but there was no need, I have coded without a mouse and can do again if need be, no issues really... I have even used my phone over wifi as a mouse, I can dev as long as I have some form of something at my disposal... Had a meeting where I had to implement a feature for something that was mentioned in a meeting I was never invited for a bunch of months prior, that had to go live today, asked all the right questions, remained calm, tested like a pro and it was practically seamlessly inserted into the system by yours truly... I was proud of my work on a different level to be honest.. Had a difficult meeting with my manager, but kept really calm, stated the facts effortlessly and made him feel comfortable too, happy ending and happy resolution. Then I spent the ride home trying to project an fm station using my phone.. by the time we got home me and my colleague found a solution to be tested soon... It was only when I put my phone down after closing all my research tabs and deleting the apps used for the day that will not be needed tomorrow when I realised how awesome I seem to have become... Treating myself to a juicy burger and coke with gaming tonight. Something is bound to go sideways again sometime. But you know what, it seems like I'll be just fine.. Somewhere I seem to have become exactly who I wanted to be.. Now for further goals and higher aims while maintaining this person I only noticed today.2 -
I couldn't figure out why my server went down all of a sudden. This seems suited for this week's rant.
Expert fullstack solutions architect here.3 -
*me* finding solutions on StackOverflow, Medium, API Docs for hours
*senior dev* walks in and changes one line of code
*works* O.o4 -
Our new trainee started working couple weeks ago and the amount of whining and complaining when something doesn’t work is driving me insane!
I don’t know if he realizes that his job is to also find solutions to fix those issues..?1 -
Just watched a 30 mins tutorial on youtube and atleast 20 mins of that was debugging his code. Can't you just re-record or atleast cut the part where you go through all the stack overflow solutions!1

My company thinks "DevOps Engineer" means
(Senior AWS Solutions Architect) + (Lead DevOps Engineer) + (CISO) + (Helpdesk) + (Sys Admin) + (Team Lead) + (Database Adminstrator)
My mistake was taking on all those duties without demanding 7x the pay.10 -
Modern HR is great. I love the fact that my future as a developer depends on how effectively I can talk over someone and create solutions to shitey ice breaker games.
Fuck off. Code test me, cunt.1 -
my coolest project is one i am currently working on. its my 12 month old daughter. She challenges me everyday and gives me enough kicking to find the best solutions for all my other projects. every developer should have this muse.2

Is this what we've all been waiting for?
CodeCorrect finds solutions to common errors in your code
"The hack works by inserting a piece of JavaScript in your web code that reroutes uncaught exceptions to a local node.js web server. From there, the code sends a request to StackOverflow's API to search for error messages and return the highest-ranked solutions to user-submitted questions. Answers are extracted from the StackOverflow, and if they can automatically be converted into instructions, changes will be made to the original code."
https://techcrunch.com/2017/05/...3 -
So true and why I've gone on and on over years saying technical interviews are just crap... Good solutions cannot be thought of in 30mins unless you recite what you remembered beforehand.

Who is bored with their job?
Wish you had something more challenging other than the same drivel day in and day out? Wish you could learn new things or apply better technologies to existing solutions other than just trudging through each day?7 -
I've just realized that a game with over 1 million downloads (the ranking list is over 2 million people) has its solutions saved in the preference's file. So anyone with a rooted phone can access this file. This make me so fucking crazy: you make a stupid shitty game and get over 2 million users and don't even bother to make it good.
Now I have to decide whether to write to the developer to inform him that this is a stupid way to store the solutions or to make an app to let everyone know the solutions.4 -
Multi-Screen problem: So I need to run a VR headset with a laptop, and the laptop has only one hdmi connection. I don't have any extra hdmi adapters, so I cannot connect my second screen while working with the headset, which sucks...
but...
then it hit me...
there is an app called spacedesk which allows you to use your phone as an additional screen. I have a docking station for my phone so I can connect hmdi to it. On the first try the resolution was shit since it uses the default phone resolution. But the phone has Samsung Dex, which allows you to run everything full screen on your connected screen, so I can run the app within Samsung Dex and therefore will get full resolution.
And this works. It's kinda stupid and maybe a bit complicated, but it works. God, I love technology :D:D:D
This is the adapter to adapter to adapter to adapter meme in action, just wireless. Lol. I'm proud of this xD5 -
Giving the stink-eye to the stakeholder who scheduled an important meeting when I’m out on PTO 😒😑😠 And my calendar had the day blocked off for weeks. Stakeholder probably doesn’t want me there because I’ll just tell them their “solutions” aren’t actually solutions.3

So I have been getting a lot of spam at work for various crap. Some conference attendee bullcrap, and other fake vendors, etc.
Someone pointed out to me that a lot of spam comes from China. So if you reply to the spam with topics the people of China are not supposed to see then they filter you out of the spam network.
Now I started replying to the most prolific spam with this as a link:
"1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre"

I will let you know if this helps reduce or increase my spam.6 -

I just want to play my bullet hell games and watch panel shows at the same time, but nooooooo. Windows needs to push all windows all the way to the right to a seemingly non-existing monitor. And I've tried all the "Adjust Deskotop Size and Position" options there are with absolutely no luck.
What makes it even worse is when I google the issue I get tonnes of solutions like this: https://superuser.com/a/420927
"Just set the games resolution to your monitors resolution", which I can't!
Oh but I can use ResizeEnable to make it possible to, well, resize the game in windowed mode, which used to work great but has since begun to make the game stutter :<5 -

I’ve done it again. I started a new online business thinking that some out of the box solutions would work for managing it. Turns out, in spite of my initial thinking that I had covered the bases, it turns out that none of those solutions fully matches my business requirements. So now I have to either rely on my own wits and poor coding skills to roll my own solution or spend money I don’t have to pay someone smarter than me to code my vision all while hoping I’ll find enough customers to recover the cost. What was I thinking?!7

Hi developers.... so i just feel like posting this post
I'm a self-taught developer its been 6 years now and i managed to get myself a job this year at a tech startup and they actually developed this developer department just for me..... with the promise that if i manage to get this department up and running I'll get a higher position as the company grows
So it's been 4 months now and i think i'm doing exceptionally well as a developer since I'm the only developer in that organization..... and some how I feel like if i use my problem solving skills to work on other real world problems not just code and designing systems..... like bringing solutions to real none code related problems i could actually achieve more and make a big difference
but I'm actually learning a lot and hope i'll become more and do more within this organization and grab that top position role3 -

That javascript ecosystem is pretty fucking neat.
Yea we got problem with certain tools like `npm`, but threw is so much shit that comes out, in a matter of month you have solutions springing up for those obstacles.

Just finished fourth interview with a company (fuck me) for a solutions engineer position (I am a self taught dev that is transitioning to technical roles from a pretty "soft" background with the hope of being in a software engineer role within three years). Sorry fam... Just because I was a devOps in my last job doesn't mean you will get the sun and the moon when asked. Let's talk realistic solutions with resources.
-
I was reading a few interesting postgreSQL solutions to constrain polymorphic tables (anti-pattern, I know) when something caught my eye.
Some solutions were looked down upon (or looked favorably upon) based on their portability to other rdbms like MySQL.
Is that really so important? I get it, if somehow you decide to change from one to the other for some god-forsaken reason it will make the switch easier. But really, how often will that happen?
I feel there is a tendency to just avoid using SQL beyond the basics.5 -
It always irritates me whenever I try to find solutions for my coding problems in angular typescript alot of resources available in jQuery and JavaScript. In the end I have to invent my own solutions. It would have been done with jQuery and JavaScript easily!1

I'm thinking on getting keypass as my password manager, since it's open source, can use csv files and works on a bunch of platforms.
Does anyone has experience with using it or can recommend, in their view, some better solutions?7 -
The value of a good walk...
So I was stuck with this problem. There's the data structure then there is the display of the data structure. Two copies of the data which is fine.
But the displayed copy is a pain to work with (WinForms) and there the was problem of having to handle events when the displayed data changed then update the back end actual working array and synchronize it so they're both up to date. Couldn't figure out a good solution. Actually slept on it. Still it didn't sit right to have two copies like that and sync it.
Went for a 20 min walk and BAM! Solution found. There was a way to just directly update the crappy WinForm and sort the data and keep the properties then when done displaying/selecting just convert to the working data format...so simple no synching required!1 -
That feeling when your teacher tells you won't get any extra marks for implementing your own solutions to things (such as queues, stacks or even just using SQL) you can just download a library/module for it.
Wth?! Surely you should get more marks for implementing your own solutions to things like this?!5 -

If I need 2 weeks to implement a new feature, I need at least one more week to find better solutions which make the code easier to read. Then I would like to spend yet another week to think about other solutions to make sure I can't find one that is even better..
I hardly ever get that time but when I do, I create something beautiful..

Why does everything about Android have to be this verbose, convoluted and complicated?
Why are there no simple solutions to most problems? I have worked with Flutter and Go and none of these have the same level of complexity as Android.

What do you think an official solution for the "Year 2038 problem" is going to be as most systems have different solutions?5

To make something impactful. I don't want to be fully credited, though being able to point to it in interviews would be great.
While working, I constantly segment my product into tiny reusable abstract solutions, most of which I eventually publish. I want some of these to grow into popular solutions to the problem I had or some other similar issue. Or, I want one of my major projects to become either a tool or an inspiration in something significant, but frankly the point is that some people appreciate something I created. -

I’ve been doing web development and mostly focusing on the frontend side of things professionally for almost 10 years. Still, I have to put up with some backend developer who did a couple of years of frontend development who now thinks he knows it all. Everytime someone reports a UX problem or asks for a feature that has some complexity and needs more thought to have a good enough solution, he steps out of his lane with “suggestions” on how to get it done with solutions that are half baked and don’t consider things like accessibility, responsiveness, or even semantics. Still, he is the hero and we’re the bad guys when we call him out for only providing crappy solutions and presenting them as complete solutions.

I was grading for the Data Communications course (it's just networks), and the professor leaves me the first quiz to grade, along with the solutions.
Half the solutions are wrong, and no problems are assigned point values. I asked him how I should grade it, even how many points total it was worth.
"You decide."
Nearly every student got a perfect score on every assignment from me because it was clear the prof. didn't care, and I wasn't about to make my own answer keys for often incomprehensible problems and incomplete solutions. -

Please post the questions in "Issues" section and hopefully would get some solutions via pull request.
If not sending pull request, please post the solutions as issues referencing the file name.
Thanks. -

I have a teaching side gig and got a course assigned on "designing and implementing cloud solutions". So I started with teaching Go, which some IT professionals consider a fairly good pick for cloud applications.
Now I get complaints from people that think I'm not allowed to teach programming in general and Go in particular in this course, which is about "designing and implementing cloud solutions".
We live in interesting times.7 -
