The Microchip LAN7850 is a USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Ethernet controller. I wonder how they manage a gigabit connection over USB 2.0 which maxes out at 480MBit. *Thinking Emoji*

    I don't think the standard specifies a minimum data rate you must be able to consume. Would you rather have it 100 Mbps only?

    480 > 100
    480 < 1000

    Just because the max is impossible doesn't mean you can't use it.

    You can go above 100, which is still useful and plenty for most of the applications that chip was designed for

    I think 10/100/1000 is 100MBps which is well within 480MBps, if I’m not missing anything.
