As a developer on the job market, would you rather have a technical assessment like one of those algorithms tests on Codility and other platforms ? Or would you prefer to be tested by building a little project actually related to what you’d be doing on a daily basis if hired?

    Out of the two, preferably none.

    But if something is required then something related to what I'd be doing, hands down. Seriously, I have no idea why there's this trend of testing people on algorithmic crap they'll never even vaguely be involved with as part of their role. Might as well test them on their ability to play chess or solve a Rubik's cube.

    Has to be a *little* task though, by which I mean it should be reasonably solved in an evening / few hours.

    How about a game of chess instead of an interview, winner gets negotiation power
