I just got off the phone with an interviewer. His startup wanted someone who has done work with other companies.

I've only ever done projects for non-profits and social enterprises up until now. The hiring managers don't even get to a review of my Github code before saying 'No, thank you'.

Really frustrated right now.

Don't look for work at startups, if you value security of employment. 9/10 of them will fail!

There is little or no room for career progression, and the salary is often very low.

That sounds thoroughly incompetent. They're wasting their time and yours... Weren't worth working for anyways.

Good luck finding someone who isn't trash.

I can understand that a startup will look for an experienced dev over a junior, simply because they don't have enough resources to invest in training. But saying no to someone, just because he doesn't have Google or Facebook mentioned on his CV as employers, is just ridiculous. I mean, if you took the time to call him, why don't you spend another ten minutes or so to know his background ? Probably because the interviewer was just a business man with little if no clue about development
