Starting my Java developer position this week. Turns out it involves absolutely no coding... pretty disappointed, but I'm just starting out. What do?

Out of curiosity... how does a "java developer" job not involve any coding? I'm guessing that's just for the first week, while you get to know the product(s) or something, am I right?

On another note: I suggest offering to help those that are coding. Ask them to assign development tasks to you.

@yo-adrian good question. I am currently assigned a non-coding project. Just starting my developer job so I'm hoping this isn't what they expect me to do as a developer... who do I even talk to in this case?

If you were hired as a developer, then I don't think it's wrong to ask your manager how you might be able to contribute as an actual developer. I would bring it up with whomever you report to, respectfully of course.

I already landed on a job just like that... It was sooo frustrating that I quit after 2 weeks...
