We all are too self-absorbed that we do not think about our previous-generations

Grandmothers, the really good ones, never really die, their influence can be seen in what we do and how we live for the rest of our lives.

I had the unique privilege to not just be the first grandchild for one of mine but to be born on her birthday as well. We had a lot of similar personality traits and I even got to be the one to drive us several hundred miles and stand next to her when she took the oath to become a citizen of the U.S. where I was born. Growing up, she taught me how to cheat at card games and to comfort those who were sad or suffering.

We lost her nearly six years ago and I still hear her voice in my head everyday. I haven't celebrated my birthday once since she's been gone and don't know that I'll ever be ready to, but while I miss her presence, I know her life is affirmed everytime I cheat at a card game or drop whatever I'm doing to try and ease the sadness I see in a stranger.

Losing a grandmother is awful and I wish you well as you navigate it. Be safe, friend
