Trying to stand out at work is tiring and doesn't seem to really do anything...

Think I'll just go back to blending in and being quiet...

@aviophile hmmm guess so.... On the surface they say they do but nothing comes of it....

    Gotta first reach boss level...

Don't try to stand out. Do good stuff. If that's not recognised, leave.

@atheist company is doing the Diversity thing.... And was asked to get involved...

Now involved, actually saying what I think... Seems no one really gives a fck what I say...

By "do good stuff", I mean make something useful to you and share it with the team, or help/teach others on your team when you can.

@donuts Ah yeah, I had that too. I did it coz it was fun for me, I did recruitment diversity and community engagement (I've got adhd so kinda relevant), got to go back to my alma mata and give a talk which was awesome, but it's not seen to have much "business value", which is a shitty metric.

@atheist that I do..I made for me to use, u guys can use it if you want.

This though is the only reason I'm doing this is because "asked me to" but seems your dinner actually care so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@atheist how's you do engagement, get other ppl to actually take interest in what you say?

@donuts getting people outside of the organisation interested is much easier than internally 😬

I still have my alumni email, so I sent a load of Unis an email about the company and a bit about myself, a few reached out with other stuff they had going on, careers fairs and work experience workshops and the like, I said yes to everything I could, got work to comp travel.

Internally, I couldn't get them to agree to my requested reasonable adjustments for my adhd, so getting anything else changed was an uphill struggle.

That said, when interviewing candidates, I'd give them a totally honest answer, screw managers.

I wasn't senior or anything, 2 years out of uni

@atheist ya that's what I said: you actually gotta make ppl want to work here and **stay here**

But here's a problem.. We can't move money from our 401k to an IRA with better investment options.. Without leaving...

Oh how are you going to convince sometime to stay that has $100,000 locked up....

@atheist wow CEO just said we're going to focus on serving rich ppl only going forward...

So much for being more inclusive...

Ok I'll just take my paycheck...
