Well, think of it like this: there's the Internet, there's your ISP, and then there are a bunch of other ISPs. The fact that your ISP brings you Internet doesn't make your ISP and the Internet the same. It's a similar story with Git and GitHub (or GitLab, Bitbucket, Gitea and so on).

git is to github as much as java is to javascript
