Fuck you EU,

thanks for making every electronics project I do much more expensive in the future by taxing me for something that I can't buy anywhere inside the eu for a reasonable price. Congrats. You made it unaffordable for me to do the one thing I had fun doing. I hate you.

Yes, tax withdrawal does make shit cheaper. No, the goverment won't accept this, no shit.
  • 2
What can't you buy for a reasonable price? 🤔
Most Chinese crap actually pushes back projects, due to getting fake shit.

    What's up? What new tax?
  • 4
@GyroGearloose No new tax. It's just that importing stuff below 22 EUR without paying any tax has been abolished.

Mostly at least, because they drop taxes below 1 EUR, i.e. importing stuff below 5.20 EUR still doesn't have tax.
  • 2
@Fast-Nop it's not even the taxes it's the fucking delivery companies profiting with handling your imports.

Besides what are they doing with those taxes anyways? And don't say roads and schools because that's a clear lie. Most of it gets lost through corruption

@HitWRight yeah right so I should buy a buck converter or motorcontroler or esp from vendors in the eu? For like 500% more?
  • 3
@lolcube The vendor can directly pay the required taxes so that the delivery companies won't charge you 6 EUR for that service.
  • 1
@Fast-Nop yeah sure and I bet the small vendors on aliexpress will do that
  • 2
@lolcube That's on them, not on the shipping companies, and neither on the EU.

It won't take the vendors long to figure out that paying taxes directly gives them an effective 6 EUR price advantage over competitors who don't do that. The market will clear that out.
  • 1
@Fast-Nop ok honestly I don't give a fuck about the eu or those companies I just want to get my electronics cheaply so I can afford development. I am mostly pissed because now I'll pay significantly higher taxes and I'll get absolutely nothing in return.
  • 3
@lolcube Yeah no shit, tax withdrawal allows for cheaper shopping. However, what you pay is just the normal 19% import tax that domestic vendors also have included.

Also, you never get anything directly in return for taxes because taxes are not purpose bound, unlike fees.

@ostream sure I'll grow up and finally be a wageslave for the Übermenschen that enforce their will on me so I can retire with 90 having no pension. Sounds like an awesome deal
  • 1
@Frederick dude I am sorry okay? This is devRant and not devReasonable i was just pissed that i have to pay more now. I didn't insult anyone from this community. Anger isn't necessarily reasonable is it?

Edit: oooooh I misunderstood your post sorry
  • 3
@Fast-Nop thanks for calming me down with reasonable arguments. Still, i think the automatic 6 euros extra fee is bullshit and not fair. I understand the taxes but the handling fee is just stupid money grabbing. Especially for lots of small orders, it's just a lot of bureaucracy if you want to declare it beforehand and I can't fill out a 2 page form for every little buck or boost converter I order. That's ridiculous
  • 1
@lolcube It's actually an offer by the delivery company. Sure, it's one you may not want, especially not when you order goods for like 7 EUR, but that will clear itself out once vendors smart up to outcompeting vendors who don't smart up. Chinese vendors won't leave out that way of competing on cost.

On the other hand, if you batch up from the same vendor and order for 60 EUR, then these 6 EUR aren't that bad - in particular compared to having to go to the customs office which may be an hour away, and during regular working hours which requires a holiday at work, and waiting for two hours at the customs although you are the only one in the line just because. There's a lot of potential for an even more angry rant right there.

@Fast-Nop it'll take ages and there'll still be loads of vendors not doing it properly and I am not sure how obvious it will be if the seller does it or not. (the ali site is already shitty enough) Bulk orders on aliexpress are just not viable in enough themselves because you end up paying way more because of delivery. There are many vendors where 2 units come with free shipping and with the 3rd you pay like 8 bucks shipping. Besides i often choose to buy from 10 different vendors to compare the quality and not every vendor hass everything. Small packages are just unavoidable if you buy on aliexpress.

Edit: I know it's an offer but its one they almost force you to take. And it's default. I don't think they should be allowed to push a service on to you without asking you first.
  • 1
@lolcube But you can decline the service. In that case, you have to go to the customs and clear the delivery yourself.

And yeah, the vendors will have to learn that - if they don't care, it means that the effort on their side wouldn't be worth additional customers.
  • 1
@Fast-Nop that's what i fear. That they just won't care. If there was at least an online system to track imports and you get a bill from customs automatically. The current system is just WAAAAAAY too old.
  • 1
I take it as a challenge. Quality stuff is out of the reach of the budget - find a way to manufacture it cheaper.
I am still very proud to be an EU citizen, because we're so much better off than any other nation. Stupid laws and regulations challenge us to be innovative, and be smart about our actions.
  • 1
@lolcube There is an online system for the vendors to pay customs in advance, though I'm not sure whether it already works - but once it does, it can't get more convenient (apart from not paying tax at all, of course).
  • 1
@SortOth yeah okay but I can't just go and open an ic manifacturing company for myself. I really doubt that you'd be able to create e.g. Buck boost converters as cheaply here.
  • 1
@Fast-Nop I've read a report that said it's planned but they fucked up to do it in time..... Classic. They claim January 2022 but I highly doubt it.
  • 1
Someone found what an import tariff is?
  • 1
Some are so spoiled - they even rant about free lunch being over...
  • 1
@Oktokolo i want my free lunch aaaaaaaaaah

I thought you meant global tax, eu tax, vaccine passport, eu digital wallet and mandatory electronic internet identity for accessing network so we all can feel safe.

You just meant stuff that happened. Wait a year and look at list I mentioned above again 😂

@lolcube This is Europe we dont call it corruption, we calle lobbying!
  • 1
@JFK422 I love how the governments of Europe and the US cover up not taxing the rich with “lobbying” to make it seem like normal people could do it. The government is supposed to build a system that helps its actual citizens, not its corporate ones.
