I think I'm fucked up.
Really need to create a design, but has been feeling so stressed that I couldn't work, it's been 2 weeks and seriously no progress. It all started with saying that it's a small project and now I am capable of doing nothing.
God, I can't move. I can't work. I can't complete the task.
I'm doing more than my capacity or what? It's too late to confess it to management that I can't.

This is basically me at my first coding competition, got carried by my team tho. You are basically feeling nervous about missing the deadline or most likely most being able to catch up with your team.

Explain your situation to HR and ask them if they have someone available at your skill niveau to work with you

I think I know how you feel. Some years ago I did a programming project as an exam and I felt this immense sensation of dread and paralyzation because I seriously miscalculated the scope of the design in the little time I had and I always hated everything I did

The way I cope with this is to bitterly denounce every other engineer on the project (and every other piece of software it's on top of) and how everything they wrote sucks because it's not exactly what i would have done

I keep repeating this to myself until it feels true to build up a strong reserve of sheer spite. Then I fan the flames of hatred by drinking 10 cups of coffee & listening to metal to boost my adrenaline. You can further adjust your mindset by avoiding social contact & judiciously dropping loud F-bombs. Now leverage that hate by redirecting it into productive energy!

@ArtOfBBQ nice try! I don't feel any better. I am trying to distract myself now as I really am not able to move a finger.

@ArtOfBBQ I really don't know why am I scared to death? I am stressed due to work I understand but does it make you feel like this? Wth is wrong with me?

@true-dev001 I have no idea tbh. When's the last time you had a vacation?

@ArtOfBBQ Not a vacation but I take leaves every now and then. So I think Last week Monday I took a leave. But vacation for a week was in December.
Bad thing is, given the projects which are assigned to me won't let me take a vacation although I can take day offs.

@true-dev001 what about other stuff in your life? Is you having a bad time @ work affecting what you eat? Are you getting some exercise?
  • 0
@ArtOfBBQ I was exercising since 6 weeks but this week I couldn't. As I am not able to move my work. I ate fine today but yeah this week it was difficult to eat.
I cried a bit. But that won't change anything. I have opened the design draft to edit it, I have to fill up the existing system detail so it's like doing the homework. I don't know, I still couldn't solve the requirements problem.

@true-dev001 listen I'm not an expert but I think you should forget about the design draft! You are definitely not running at anything close to full functionality

Just tell your boss honestly what's going on and they should be able to figure out that you need a real break where you're not thinking about work at all. It'll pay off for them as well because you'll come back 10x more productive

use the break to exercise, go for walks, be outside, never look at a phone or computer screen. Go to a zoo or a park or something so your brain can reset

@ArtOfBBQ I had a talk with my friend and he's said a lot like this. He talked for like an hour to answer all my what ifs. I decided to go to bed and tell my manager tomorrow about it.

    good luck!

@ArtOfBBQ So, I told my manager about it. He was only concerned what we should do better for this. He didn't complain about my work or anything.

I also talked to one of my teammates, he said that this work is not small task and you need to break this down on pieces. He wrote the steps wise step what I should do.
This task will take more time than it was required.

I was getting stressed on something which was hard to do already.
