Why does this entire company have such a hardon for excel?

Company? The entire fucking world runs on spreadsheet.

Have a generic entity editor for non tech people and it will end up being excel sooner or later.

Still better than PowerPoint

Because Excel is similar to Arduino. It's not "the best" in any way, but its versatility allows it to be used in incredible number of usecases.

It's the same in our corporate. ~70-80% of our team automation is based on Excel. We don't write VBA because we like it, but because it's the only option left. The only good thing is we don't have to invent an application frontend from scratch and users are already familiar with the interface.

@qwwerty Well there is libreoffice which doesn't nearly everything one can ask for + its cross platform and its open source.
