My 1300€ Thinkpad is just a noisy and sometimes annoying laptop. It is sometimes so loud that my colleague is pissed off.

It is almost four years old and dust cleaning did not help...
I am so pissed off by this behaviour i am actually thinking of selling it and buying a macbook.......

    Or, just get a laptop that's not 4 yrs old. You're on the ass end of its lifetime, is gonna do stupid things

    Idk...my 2012 mac works just fine for development AND doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner. Just saying ;)

    @mzgaljic but a 2017 one would be the glitchest they've ever released. Look at reviews from Mac users.

    @iam13islucky Oh no doubt Apple screwed up the latest notebook. 100% agree. My point was just that a laptop sounding like a vacuum cleaner is NOT acceptable if you're just doing basic dev work. And his computer isn't even THAT old.

    @dmin let me try to be helpful...on my mac i have an app that lets me manually control the fan speed. I rarely use it but it's handy. See if there is a similar program for windows. perhaps you can just lower the fan speed a bit?

    Thanks for the suggestions. At first i think that 4 years is not a critical age for a Thinkpad as they are mostly solid.
    Anyway I do Java development with Netbeans + local wildfly instance and this results in cpu temps at about 60-70 degrees which results in fanspeeds about 2700-3000rpm, typical Lenovo fail.

    I am using linux and there is a tool called thinkfan where you can adjust fan speeds for temperature thresholds but that won't really help as these thresholds are still too loud.

    There are tons of good notebooks these days. Can recommend nexoc. Mac will charge you double for something that's not as fast as other notebooks

    If the laptop is fine in other regards, maybe you should consider changing the fan first. Maybe even just opening the laptop and cleaning the fan will yield some improvement.

    @DLMousey good suggestion 😁

    I did some research and there exist two different fans for my notebook. There are even some blog posts which clear out that replacing fan x by fan y will definitely help.

    The only fan applicable to this criteria is being sold from China. So in about three weeks i will receive my new fan :D
