Just did a minimal install of Ubuntu in VirtualBox and also installed i3. Been a Windows user until now. This simply feels soooo good.

You will LOVE Linux and especially i3. It's my preferred stack at home and at work. Whole new world of productivity.

Now make it your host os. Just make the jump it's the only way to really switch!

Props man! I used vim for like a year for my dev and i still love the thing, but I couldn't go all they way tiling, too much for me.

And you did coming from windows... You are my hero

@Arlekin give tiling another shot in a year. Great when you have fifteen editors open (im a good vim user but for some reason never got that into windowing in it or tmux for hat matter

My exact same stack on the personal laptop. I love it

Linux is nice and peachy until you manage to break something. Oh boy, you're in for a harsh ride then.

@neerajwagh harsher in Windows though. Linux it's super obvious how to fix things. Syslog is your friend. (Dmesg too)

I've only irreversibly broken Linux once, and it was because of severe damage to my file system I totally nuked it. Sometimes even that you can recover though.

@neerajwagh Exactly why I'm using VirtualBox. It lets me roll back to a previous snapshot any time :)

@Arlekin That's high praise. Thank you

@runfrodorun ah you sound like a systems guy. Nice!

@neerajwagh I'm a compiler/os engineer, but all of my Linux friends are still probably better at it then myself. Being on Windows so long teaches people that the answers aren't there, so even when people say 'check the logs' people who come from Windows think it's a wild goose chase, because Windows none of the diagnostic tools are ever helpful. So people don't even look. That's why it took me so long to become proficient in Linux... years of Windows had eroded my faith. But after the first couple of times you look, you learn the diagnostic tools work really good in Linux!
