I wonder what would happen if an experienced developer were elected as President

    Developer'd get bullied into signing dumb shit by a manager :D

    @nitnip hm.... Don't think Trump got bullied. Who could bully the most powerful person in the world?

    @donuts Trump didn't get bullied? Didn't you follow up on the media who even took to his haircut? Btw., so much for the feminist myth that only women are mocked for their appearance.

    As for the actual question, that would be a bad choice because devs, like scientists, understand facts. However, politics isn't about facts, it's about values and compromises.

    @Fast-Nop media I guess tried but he didn't care and still did whatever he wanted. I guess I would consider bullying only if it actually affected him.

    By what if I meant, what would the world look like if he got his way.

    rm -rf /

    I don't know.

    In Austria a system for the automated distribution of unemployment help was proposed and at least used for some time: People unemployment for a long time were classified as "a lost cause" and did not receive help for finding a new job anymore.

    While looking good on the paper, for each person not fitting in this scheme of "being a lost cause" it must feel like a punch to the guts to be classified as such.

    Of course my summary is drastically simplified, and I don't know if it was proposed by developers - but I fear more of those systems would be implemented if developers get to decide. Too many (and even experienced ones) propose seemingly great solutions, completely forgetting about the humans whose problems the solution was supposed to solve...

    @vane release the nukes?

    @Fast-Nop I mean, his hairdo and orange spray tan was kinda stupid though
  • 1
    @donuts there would be a dead man script named: fuck_you_all.sh that would release the nukes.

    @donuts Nah just rm -rf / of everything on gov servers.

    @donuts Trump didn't get bullied? He did! He just didn't care.

    And look what that got him.

    Demonized over the entire world, banned from every relevant social media platform for accusations about things he didn't do. Things the current sitting president is "happily" doing right now.

    "Happily" in quotations because who knows what's still happening inside that senile guy's head at this point.

    @nitnip hm...ok but irrelevant? Or just change the question to "a developer who doesn't care what others think"
  • 0
    @donuts He'd get "Trump"ed.

    Is peoples' focus on Trump because he represented a "real" president? I mean nobody mentioning Joe "my butt's been wiped" Biden. I agree with this, just wondering if there is something unconscious going on.
  • 1
    @Demolishun well Biden seems to care what ppl think. I mentioned trump because he didn't in response to @nitnip first comment about getting bullied... Then it just branched off from there

    @donuts Biden does not care what I think. If he did he would cease to exist. But that is politics.

    @Demolishun Biden + democrats + republicans = let's all be friends

    Trump + republicans = do my bidding or get lost/your fired
  • 0
    @donuts Democrats + Republicans = sell everyone into slavery

    I am part of the Patriot party now.

    @Demolishun I'm part of the
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ party...

    We're all screwed no matter what
  • 1
    @donuts Yeah, shit gonna get weirder soon I think. They just passed the forced cameras in cars and mileage meters to tax people on mileage. It is like they didn't understand how road taxes already work. Expect more and more control of your daily life. Think China's social credit system.

    @Demolishun I was thinking more like in 10 years the world will be on fire or underwater and basically humanity drove itself to extinction....or AI prevents that by taking over the world and either kills all humans or puts us all into the matrix.

    Dev President may help accelerate the last one.

    @donuts SkyNet is working with GroundNet and AirNet. It is a huge conspiracy. WaterNet is still on the sidelines.

    Is the new president a C or C++ developer?

    If yes:
    All safety measures become optional for tools used mostly by professionals.
    You can still use them without being eletrocuted if careful - just like you can use buffers in C and C++ without having a buffer overflow.
    Just be careful and follow best practices...
  • 1
    @Oktokolo but everyone thinks they're professionals?
  • 0
    Then the entire nation would get computerized

    They can blame everything on citizens, say that requirements were not clear
  • 0
    They would hate giving speeches and focus more on building and fixing

    Maybe it is good for people. But it is not good for TV channels who would then start speculating and spreading rumours about their competencies. Soon, the actual politicians would get a chance to topple the Government which the President is too busy to see and focus on. And eventually, the President would be too tired to even fight back and it would be back to square zero

    Is it possible for a whole country to segfault?
