Doesn’t this depend on the management? I give broad leeway to my devs to implement code, but that doesn’t mean I don’t look at those commits. With no oversight you can end up with garbage software. Good managers let professionals do their job but also enforce standards. Not all managers are just people managers, nor or all managers good…doesn’t mean they’re all bad.

They can tell me their business crap and all. Not really care about that. But never how to code. Fuck that.

john-doe9363y@atrabilious it appears to me that, you're some sort of Dev lead. Not really the kind of manager that I am talking about here.

john-doe9363yThe situation that I am talking about here is. CEO that comes from financial background is telling everyone to go fast and furious. And to my understanding, any dev worth it's salt would know better that coding in a haste.
Gee, stop for a second, think your crap through and write nice stuff.
I am witnessing coworkers in an infinite redo loop because they're writing shit that doesn't get approved.
And they're getting super anxious. Like, stop listening to their opinions and just do what you know how to do. -
@galileopy I’m a dev lead…sorta. I’m a VP, but I still code, in a big company. It occasionally happens…although I admit it’s rare. I get all the stuff no one else wants to touch “we can’t do that. It will take too long. There’s no solution” all comes to me. I don’t toss that back at my teams without at least a poc to prove viability, which I code myself. It means lots of long nights tho. ☹️
Why on Earth are people letting management tell them how to code? It is not their job to know how to do it. Much less to tell you how to do it.
