Fucking hate sites with great SEO but shitty user experience like Quora. Top of Google but requires a login or else it's locked down like some university cheat site.

Fuck your low quality answers hidden behind a useless blurry paywall. You're a glorified Q&A. Go fuck yourself

@killames Quora and LinkedIn is full of Indians. You can only expect shit.

I am being hateful against Indians for sure but not racist (assuming that hate and racism are separate), because coming from an Indian society, I know how pathetic it is to survive here.

    Are they better than StackOverflow?

I never tried Quora. But after reading a lot on StackOverflow i got an account eventually to be able to upvote. After that i also actually answered a few questions over the years.

I can't remember to ever having created an account on a site i didn't already knew about it offering something i want...
Are other people just randomly creating accounts everywhere?

@Floydimus They are. Statistics aren’t racist.

People in Vegas are awful. Not all of them, of course; I’ve met great people there, and have friends there. but in general, Vegans absolutely are awful. It doesn’t make me prejudiced to say so.

People in Canada are friendly. Not all, of course; I know at least three people in Canada I absolutely despise. but in general, Canadians absolutely are friendly. It doesn’t make me prejudiced to say this, either.

I’ve met more terrible devs from India than any other country. Same goes for scammers. I’ve also met a few wonderful Indians. But given my experiences, I exercise significantly more caution with them than e.g. Fins. Is this prejudiced of me? Bigoted? Racist? No. It’s sanity. If I did not exercise more caution, I would be trying the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results — insanity.

Now, if I hated Indians just for being Indian, regardless of my experiences with them, that would be racist.

… guess I got tired and preachy. 🙁

You can easily circumvent the blur wall. Open a new link on Quora, see shit is blurred, go to the address bar, don't change the URL, just press enter.

I thought Quora was supposed to shut down, but turns out it was Yahoo Answers.

    It's great for trolling though

@Root "But given my experiences, I exercise significantly more caution with them than e.g. Fins."

That's faulty thinking imho. it's natural to use your personal history as heuristic to predict the future, we're all doing that, it's stereotypisation and it's the way the brain work. It's still unrational. Individual differences and proximate environment explains way more variability in people's behavior than culture. You probably would hate being reduced to your demographic.

@Floydimus Jesus god lol coming from America I found that funny but with a very small tinge of guilt because most of the Indians I’ve met are cruel perverts lol

@Root yes you should try the hotdogs

@Fast-Nop I discovered that same like a year ago, i really wonder why that is even a thing.

From a technical standpoint, its sad they didnt even managed to do such a simple thing right. Not that i am complaning since i hate the stupid "LoGiN iS rEqUiReD" bullshit.

@Frederick I guess they just check the referrer.

@ostream Personal experiences are great indicators, so long as you allow them to change. If you don’t, you will have problems — kind of like my girlfriend’s dad who will simply never change his ways, no matter what happens, no matter what anyone says, etc.

As for my demographic, I’m Irish. I don’t mind people thinking of me that way. (They’re not wrong, after all.) Any differences quickly become apparent after a short chat. For example, I prefer rum to whiskey 😉

Also aggregators that clutter up the search results and are actually populated by bots copying questions and answers from SO and closed github issues.

Google needs to reintroduce result reporting or blocking.

@Root Regarding your comment on statistics not being racist:
Saying “people in Vegas are awful” is like saying “prime numbers are odd”. Just because it may be true in most cases doesn’t mean it’s *true*.

This is problematic because if you say “Indians are terrible devs” to somebody who happens to be Indian, your language directly implies that that person, too, is a terrible dev. But if you state that “on average, India has more terrible developers than other countries”, they can just respond with “oh yeah, good thing I’m not one of them”.
So there’s a subtle difference between stating statistic facts and absolute truths, and sadly, most racist people seem to fail to grasp that.

@MasterCarl stereotypes come from somewhere, but they don't go everywhere
  • 0
@MasterCarl You’re implying I would make a callous comment like that to someone’s face. I would not. Past experiences determine my expectations, not my behavior towards individuals; their actions determine that.

To put it another way, there is a significant difference between knowledge and behavior. The wise person befriends everyone, including those s/he disagrees with. Or in nerd talk: wis is more important than int or cha.

And of course “not all Indians”; re-read my comment. 🙄

@Root thanks for this. Low key feel validated.

I hate Indians based on my experience and not them being born in that region.

I wish I could favourite your comment.
