    IMO if you can't work for a little while without relying on Stack Overflow, you probably need to take another career direction. Sure, it helps for specific problems that you might be stuck at (if you're able to phrase it into a qualifying question that is), but even if SO is down for a couple of hours (and I doubt it would ever be down for longer), 1) you have that time to think on the problem by yourself or 2) you can still crawl for cached versions of SO pages if it's a common problem that other people have had.
