*during sprint planning*
Me: so here are the tickets I'm taking in this sprint. I'll do this first and that second. I'm also keeping some buffer for emergency stuff
Manager: ok, this looks good. I trust you and will let you work in peace unless something important comes up. I won't micro manage you
Also my manager for every fucking day of the sprint: hey man what's up? Ready for sync up call?

THAT'S MICRO MANAGING RIGHT THERE YOU PIECE OF SHIT. YOU COULD CHECK JIRA OR GITHUB OR ASK ME IN STANDUP BUT YOU INSIST ON CALLING AND ASK ABOUT THE TINIEST DETAILS. GO FUCK YOURSELF SERIOUSLY

This dumb fuck manager is the kind who told the whole team "I'm very disappointed with you guys" when we couldn't resolve some production issues that were caused by his architecture decision that I was strongly against.
The funny thing is that he got promoted because "hurr durr KPI... hurr durr Metrics... hurr durr test coverage...". My manager's managers only care about useless numbers

At what point does management become micro-management? Curious.

@Cyanide maybe I misunderstand the meaning of micro management. I'm not a native speaker so I don't know if there's a word for the kind of manager who goes to every little detail, like what http client I'm using, what is the API response structure, and he does this daily.
I'm not the only dev in the team, and we even have a tech lead to consult.

@Xamenyap Nah man.. I think you got it right.. that does feel like micro-management.. I just wanted to know when exactly one feels like they are being micro-managed.. got the answer 🤙

@Cyanide For me micromanagement is when you feel like you are having to justify yourself as you report back, it feels like you have to convince the manager.
When you have a great manager it feels like you work with them not for them, you don’t need to convince them because they put their trust in you.

Sounds like micro management to me. A micro manager is one who supervises their team excessively, monitoring, and often criticising, every little detail, and seeking excessive progress reports.

    They look like this

@nibor I told him that we should keep daily standup short, and he insisted that everyone must provide extra details "to provide more context and share knowledge". It's so fucking stupid. One time our iOS dev reported a bug he found and how he fixed it. I work on backend, so I don't know about the context here, and I've never worked with iOS development, no knowledge can be shared with me. Maybe I'll be interested in iOS dev next month or next year, but by then I will have already forgotten about this "knowledge".
I don't think he knows how to manage a team, and his "help" with our coding is atrocious.

In our sprint planning, user stories are laid out for the current sprint. Then after 2 or 3 days a new user story will be assigned to you in your todo haha 😂
