Adding a couple functions to free software, rebranding, then selling to customers.

I know that there are other companies that do this, but still feels like stealing from the authors and ripping off customers at the same time.

Maybe I am too sensitive, but I'm deeply disturbed by this and I'm having a really hard time getting work done.

what does the open source license say?

    It really depends.
If it's open source (think wordpress) and you sell the customisations and development effort of getting it setup then it's fine.

If your selling wordpress as is with a different name, then yea it's a problem.

Well if you took Chrome, took at the evil spy shit out, and sold it. That might be a product I might want to buy. There are versions of Linux you can buy as well. Or pay for support. Value added.

Depending on the license of the og software, that could well be stealing. Just rebranding and selling a slightly modified foss is noy quite ok in my mind, very different from selling the added functionality as a plugin.

If the author licensed it to do so, up to them.
