I know this is not a rant, so maybe I'm a *bit* off topic, but I need some help. I'm about to get a new laptop. I'm on my final year of uni and I think I'll focus on machine learning from now on. I'm between buying a Lenovo laptop (IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6) and running ubuntu on it, or a 2019 MacBook Pro. The specs on the lenovo are better, I know, but I always kinda wanted a mac and now I'm torn between doing what's best and what will please my long time macbook desire. Any opinions? Thank you in advance!

A laptop for machine learning... Ouch.

Check that AVX support exists / CPU.

Many ML programs rely on it.

    Otherwise: Whateva kink you have...

But running long term machine learning on a laptop will possibly be thermal throttled and the device itself won't live long.

ML you want best bang for the buck. Macs are usually more expensive, laptops are usually more expensive than towers.

Windows host with Linux vm is also doable. Or just a cloud instance running Linux.

Don't get a Mac for ML, get something with a hefty Nvidia GPU and a ton of RAM.

I like my sager, but it only has a 3060 in it.

    Maybe get a 3080?

Why Mac is even an option? They are always having worse specs for the money and some shitty cooling slapped on
