Sales lesson: The more complex your resume looks, the more confused your employer is going to get and the lower the chances will be they're going to hire you..

And so, if I put 60 technical skills on my resume, my employer is going to sit there with their hands in their hair and be utterly confused (which has happened to me a few times before). They're going to have no idea what it is exactly that I'm capable of..

I'm not exactly surprised because in my English Business Skills course in college they also said in regards to quality: K.I.S: Keep It Simple.

Stick to a maximum of 6 skills and that's it..

Also, always add a friendly, personable summary to the top.

Bullet points suck to read and remember. But something friendly that talks to you like a person? That’ll stick in your mind. And memorable for any reason means you’re more likely to get selected. It’s the same reason a gold paper clip helped in the printed era.

Very much like that gold paper clip, I also make sure my resume has a touch of color. I use very dark blue text in key places instead of black. The interviewer won’t consciously notice the color, but it makes my resume look slightly different, better, and makes it stand out a little more.

Psychology matters at least as much as technical skills. :)
