Me: *Chilling a little during a stressful day*

*Receive an email, because thankfully I am logged in and checking emails continuously as I am on job hunt*

*Click open*

Recruiter: I am over running a meeting, will join our connect in 10 minutes.

Me: *Trying to recall when did she schedule the call*

*Quickly check and figure that I shared my availability but never got a confirmation or a meeting invite*

Me: Apologies, but I never received any confirmation. I was waiting for your invite.

Recruiter: What? When did you reschedule?

Me: I never did. I never got a confirmation. Anyway, I am free so can hop on a call.

Recruiter: Oh! Sometimes the confirmation goes into the spam box. Here's the link, please join..

I join and she grills me with difficult questions that I am evidently not prepared.

I try to answer and be honest with everything.

But what the actual fuck! She lied to me and grilled me unnecessarily when she knew I wasn't even prepared.

And this is one of top global companies. Definitely not a great experience.

Stop lying and finding a reason to blame me for failing me because you are an incompetent fuck.

    Isn’t that normal corporate life?

@Root it didn't click me until a friend told me why she grilled me.

Should have pushed back and asked her to reschedule.

@Floydimus Do they want strong candidates or pushovers they can order around?

Larger companies generally mean worse management and less retention, so it’s probably the latter, with technical skills.

    Ah I don’t know. I’m in a terrible mood.

@Root same. This ruined my mood which otherwise was a super busy day going well.

@molaram Dying on the altar of lunacy. :( <3

    @molaram Haha.
I work for a bunch of crazies and they run me ragged. I hate them, but they pay well.

@molaram I think rootie needs more to spit some lead in some people to get the edge off.

    I feel your pain.

But I don't quite understand: how would you have prepared if you knew the call was coming?

Was this just a matter of time - you expected to get a booking a few days in advance and then study up in general.
Or were you expecting that the recruiter would send you information about what topics the grill questions were supposed to be about?

@jiraTicket I could have read a little about role and the company to answer her questions accordingly.

Since, I had applied for the role some time ago, I was clueless of what exactly the role is and she kept pestering on why I wanted that specific role and why I wanted to join them.

I don't see why anyone would want a prepared person on an interview anyway! What I'd want to hear is a friendly convo with a fellow dev about some projects and challenges he faced.

Expecting scripted answers should be reserved for juniors with 0 experience :( when hiring someone with 3+ years you'd think It's enough to just talk to them for a but and you know if he's good or not from that.

You have more than 3 years of experience right floyd? It feels like you do

@Hazarth will be 8 years of experience in a couple of months.

Being prepared as in, reading the job description and mental orientation towards the company I am interviewing for.

    Not proper interview Q&A.

I was caught off guard with some of the questions she kept going deeper like why do you want to work for this company?

I gave a reason. She was like why this team. I answered. She followed up saying why the specific role. I answered. She asked why this team and role in this specific location.

At that point, I was gonna show her a middle finger and drop because she was evidently irritating me.

@Floydimus have you thought of just saying "sorry, due to not having your confirmation I wasn't prepared for the interview, which company and position are we even talking about?". :D would've given her much less space to navigate and you could always callback to that statement if she tried to berate you

@Hazarth I did say I never received the invitation but again that's where I failed. I should have stood my ground instead of giving in like a desperate fuck.

    I didn't push back harder.
