I swing between sledgehammer and doormat too often. The first makes them think I don’t respect them, the second means they don’t respect me. Both together means they begin to despise me.

I’ve been trying to find an assertive middle ground, and it’s difficult because people see women being assertive as no different than being bitchy and bossy. Still better than being a doormat…
