In my case I would say bad experience with it. My teacher was going to teach us php before we used WordPress, like I said was.. Basically that semester since I was already learning JavaScript, C#, Windows forms (it was last year) and still working on Java, didn't have time or much of an organization for it.

In the end instead of actually programming I spent a hole semester drag and drop in WordPress and then installing and uninstalling plugins and themes because of some compatibility issues. And in the end ended with a "functional" spaghetti code of a website that if you upgraded your theme or plugin, it would always make more issues and errors

Simply put back in the wordpress 2.0 days i submitted security patches and they were rejected cause they made it too restrictive. So fuck them and feed them fish.

After wp fucked up three times in a row which resulted in me having to enter around 800 items manually for three FUCKING times, yeah, I dislike it.

    - Useless for complex projects.
    - Convoluted structure.
    - Security issues.
    - Learning the ins and outs is impractical and has bad ROI (time).
    - Plugins are black boxes, you don't know what you are in for, there is a shit ton of them that are written poorly.
    - Due to it's size (including plugins) it can be painfully slow.
    - Uses PHP.
    - Adding shitpiles of code every version iteration that worsen above mentioned issues.
    Need I say more ?
It's just old, outdated, slow and convoluted and somebody should fucking kill it before it implodes.

It's great for quick and dirty landing pages, but for anything else it's a pain in the ass.

I understand when you say most plugins are poorly written and/or bad coded, but why bother with it in first line anyway? :)
There is ONE plugin that is worth installing it, it replaces ALL others, it is called "Advanced custom fields".
Just a little tip for those who are forced to use wordpress.
Just my thought, and thank you all for sharing...
