Well, there's the benefit that you get out of India, but the downside is that you end up in the US.
Waiting for @Floydimus to comment -
On the downsides, costs of living etc. are also higher in the US, plus there's the questionable healthcare and social system and so on. You may also not enjoy being away from family, living in a place that has a fairly different vibe/culture from India, and so on (this is way more important than you'd think). It also depends a lot on the city/state you're in.
I know plenty of Indians who are happy here in the US and plenty who are pretty miserable; and plenty of people happy back at home (with good salaries and progression) and plenty who are miserable there too. At least in my friends' case, it's about equally distributed both ways, and the brainiest of us are the ones in India lol. Although, tbf even the ones I know here who are miserable are paid pretty well.
*generally* though, it's a step up in salary and opportunities for sure, but it need not be the case. It also depends on your field (eg. mine is hardware, not all that much of that in India so I kinda have to do this anyway, although I will say it's been improving a fair bit and it's actually sort of viable now, wouldn't mind working in those places). whether you're planning to work in the US for a while and then move back, as a lot of people do, is also a factor. Finally, visa issues and so on.
Source: I'm an Indian living in the US. I moved here for studies (PhD), still not sure if I want to stay here for work. -
@electrineer tags for the tag bro.
I am not sure what OP is trying to achieve so don't really know the comment I should make. -
@RememberMe Thanks man great answer.
Do you know of the career progression is good in India as compared to US,? -
@Floydimus huh, I'm basically tired seeing people moving to US. Even the good ones are moving, feels like A FOMO to me.
-
@true-dev001 okay so you are just upset about people moving to the US and don't know what to do about your mood.
I don't know. Maybe try not looking at such post or divert yourself. Maybe watch some Zee news praising PM Modi and how great India is 🤷🏻♂️ -
@true-dev001 depends a lot on the industry/company. Also on what you call "good" career progression, I guess. Unhelpful answer, but it really isn't that easy to say. Maybe add some specifics?
-
@Floydimus Are you asking me to move from something important to some shitty news channel?
-
@RememberMe By good career progression I meant moving up on the corporate ladder, is it easier in US?
-
@true-dev001 which industry? What do you want to move up to? What are you goals?
Kinda hard to answer without knowing what you want (and even then, I might not know, and it reeeeaaallllly depends on the company).
Is it something like, with a great salary band you don't need to go to US? I'm a software developer, I get good money, in India.
There are a lot of people moving to US, the people I think can only take right decisions.
