@Gawk I guess Arch is always going to be pretty bloatless (unless you choose to add bloat) I might start there. Is it hard to update/upgrade?
-
@masterdoctor I've enjoyed using both Debian and Fedora and don't mean to cast a slur at them, I just like learning new stuff so I'm looking at other options.

ThePyDev2048y@slaat @Drippydik Yeah Arch can be difficult indeed... specially when it thinks it is missing a GPT or MBR table (in my case GPT) that I know and double checked is there....
But that being said try Arch you might have better luck than me -
Root825578y@Drippydik several reasons.
It's different from what I'm used to, and things seem needlessly difficult. But the biggest reason is how unstable it was. Networking barely worked and would sporadically die, postgres (among other things) gave me problems... even the control panel segfaulted repeatedly.
It was a terrible experience that I'm not keen on repeating. -
@Drippydik It's easy.
Just, pacman -Syyu to update the package in the official repos. In the case of AUR : pacman wont track for you. if that AUR package is a git repos -> just, git pull or git remote update to see if there is an update, and git pull or git merge to update. and makepkg -sci to install missing dependencies -> probrably download or build package depends on PKGBUILD scripts -> install your new update. Arch -> as long as you use stable mirror, read Arch news before update and RTFM -> Its not gonna breaks. (When it break -> Its your fault.)
Just ordered new laptop - the question now is which distro to go for? Suggestions? I'm looking for something new as have good experience with Fedora and Debian but want a new challenge.
