I think it's largely people's consumption rate, interpretation of, and reaction to media.

Both Occam and Hanlon must be pretty hairy dudes, because their razors have turned rusty and dull.

Nuance seems to be a dirty word these days, no one seems to recognize the dangers of the false dichotomy. There are also very few willing to play the devil's advocate, out of fear for being mistaken for the devil.
