I think it's also important to keep remembering that leaders make decisions, but that doesn't mean that everyone who looks the same also thinks the same.

A Russian coworker of mine (living in the Netherlands) told us he got harassed in the train yesterday. He has a typical Russian-English accent -- but he fled Russia to find a home in Europe more accepting of gay guys, where he could get married to his boyfriend.

In war, there's not just "two sides".

There are uncountably many sides -- People trapped in webs of disinformation, people who secretly supported their country's opposition, people who just want peace, people who are apolitical, people with nuanced opinions, etc. Even those who voted for Putin at some point might not agree with his current decisions.

Judging people by their nationality and the actions of their leaders, dividing them forcefully into opposing camps, just breeds more hate.

Fuck Putin though, hope the guy ends up starving in a Gulag.

That's a really expensive and time consuming shot with an incredibly low chance to hit, so to most of us no treasure in the world is worth that shot.
