My friend to a group chat "Is arch Linux any good"

Another friend "if you can install it yeah"

Strangely, I feel this answer is accurate from the PoV of both people who love it and people who hate it. It's not that Arch's difficult install is a good thing about it, it just... Fits the mentality of the whole system being simple and fully user serviceable. Today I struggled with a few Linux distros whose install medium booted directly to X11 and promptly crashed with my odd hardware setup, whereas good ol Arch booted and I could deal with it from there.

Well it's true. either you can read the wiki and have good google skills, or have enough linux experience to figure it out.

I've been trying to install arch on machine which was running linuxMint previously. I accidentally deleted the complete gui. Made a backup via the tty consoles. But now i am unable to boot arch... It always says kernel panic and i am pretty tired so now I'm trying lubuntu instead

Just follow the archwiki, the installation isn't so difficult.

Its a lot easier than it sounds. The arch wiki is pretty much step by step and usually poses problems only for people who either try to do RAID setups or people who didn't search the answer.

If you are too lazy to install "plain" Arch get one of the GUI installers likr Antergos or Manjaro ;)

The distro is neat, but the community is mostly noobs who want to prove how cool they are and pros who want prove how antisocial they are.

Just like with being vegan or doing crossfit, there's nothing wrong with adopting it, but unless you want to spend hours defending your choices is best to keep it silent. ;)

Arch is a great learning experience, you either learn how the system works or the system doesn't work.
