@karma: Of course i have been fired too - once when the company got aquired and i chose to leave instead of moving to far far away, and the other time was because of bankruptcy.

Getting fired is one of the few ways for a dev to get some idle time in his life. So i really aren't that sad about it when it happens. And it isn't like devs are growing on trees either. So idle time never lasts long enough anyways...
