Dev: Sends weekly update email on Friday, as drudgingly required by management, outlining that stress level is high recently in the past two weeks and constant polling for feedback and updates is stressing him out, needs to slow down the pace

Management: (ON A FUCKING SATURDAY): "Received your email @fullStackChris"

WOW! THANKS FOR THAT INSIGHTFUL UPDATE! I BET YOU DID! I HAVE NO DOUBT GOOGLE'S SMTP SERVERS ARE RUNNING PROPERLY. AND AFTER READING IT, YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO @ ME IN A WHATSAPP MESSAGE. ON A FUCKING SATURDAY. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU, I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT THE COMPANY OR ITS TASKS UNTIL MONDAY. PLEASE STOP.

I mean they must be fucking with me at this point, right guys? Maybe I should start writing stuff like "I need more tasks and more messages throughout the day" then I would probably receive less, I mean wtf is actually going on.

    Ok.

    1. chill.
    2. GTFO there.
    3. Chill!

Your boss is an idiot, accept it. Then continue with the next job interviews, while doing the minimum of work. Having a plan helps?

    What @magicMirror said.

    Chill the fuck out.

I had this problem, and then I learned to not give a fuck.

Unless it's a phone call, I'm not looking at it.

    Text? Fuck em.
    Email? Fuck em.
    Facebook/insta/whats/etc? Fuck em.

If it helps, turn your phone on silent for 12 hours out of the day.

If you can, get a whole different phone for work then just leave it in a box under your desk over the weekend.

The problem is I love the product I'm driving forward... it's just my colleagues are insanely stressful.

To be fair it is on me. I need to chill. I have a problem with work in general taking it way too seriously. Still haven't found a solution to it though.

    @fullstackchris
Vacation. Hobby. Rant here, if it helps. Close some JIRA tickets.

You *will* burn out, if you let the stress get to you. Don't.

@fullstackchris no product is worth your health.

Burnout is not a laughing matter.

Burnout isn't just, "I'm tired of this product."

Burnout is, "I can't even stand to look at a computer because I immediately begin to have a panic attack."

Think of it like this. Every day you push through high stress days and force yourself to work through it and what you're actually doing is conditioning your brain to chemically associate your tasks with high amounts of cortisol. It becomes such a normal occurrence that your brain begins to associate these neural paths with high anxiety and begins to release cortisol as soon as these paths activate.

It's no different than electroshock therapy, it's just a different process to get to the same destination.

    🛑 Stop 👏 the 👏 cycle 🛑

If you don't, one day you might wish you had(if you're lucky).

I learned that no matter how invested you are emotionally in a product because you're writing it, if you don't own it then it's not real.

Leave the job and watch how at exactly 5:01 it has nothing to do with you anymore and you will never be involved again. It's not real.
