A faster, better YouTube they said, 'YouTube needs permissions to Contacts, Location, SMS, Microphone, Device ID and information', they said. :/

I'm good with a slower, worse YouTube.

    Using MiUi so denied most of the permisisons.

    Turn off the permissions manually?

    @singh It's CyanogenMod

    @singh oh you meant you are using MIUI, I thought you are talking about my ROM

    That's exactly the reason why I haven't (and won't) updated my YouTube so far. Seriously: what do they need all these permissions for? They're supposed to stream videos to me and not to search through my files, contacts, messages and calls

    Is the permissions fearmongering still that strong? You know apps need permission for their capabilities, not their "dangerous hidden wiretapping" right?

    Of course YT needs access to the microphone, how would you record videos without it? Contacts for sharing and aggregating data of people you know as any other free web service does.

    I can't believe a bunch of coders and possible app developers still perpetuate this myth that "permissions are bad hurr durr"

    @SlackOverflow welcome fellow google employee 😂

    @sovietspy2 I'm not talking about Google specifically. But any app that requires a single permission is met with backlash.

    What people need to ask is "Do these permissions match with the app's capabilities?".

    Misinformation is as dangerous as malicious intent.

    @SlackOverflow My mistake. I apologize fellow NSA agent.

    @sovietspy2 Now we're talking. Get it right the first time, next time.

    Guys check out NewPipe, it does a frickin' good job IMO

    Aren't permissions asked for while using the app?
    I mean, for example, I haven't granted facebook the permission to use my camera so it doesn't.. Isn't this how android works now?

    @bas1948 It is, but who knows what version of android OP is using?

    @SlackOverflow
    He's on CyanogenMod, which is a dead and unsupported project.
    But it still offers improved security over stock android anyway...

    @SlackOverflow I'm on Lollipop. Will flash Android N sometime in the future.
