I've been running Linux for a couple of years now and despite the sheer pleasure building arch Linux can give you I'll admit that I still love Linux mint with KDE for a standard all-purposes desktop/laptop

iAmNaN71318yUbuntu is great if you don't have an Nvidia or AMD video driver ... or a wireless card, or a relatively new NIC... other than that, it's great.
I use CentOS. -
iAmNaN71318y@tilde I'm running CentOS on a desktop with an Nvidia card that used to be a gaming computer in its heyday, on a little Acer Netbook with a little Intel Atom processor, and it runs great on both. I use Gnome on both. It's a great distro.

Well my Linux box started kernel panicing every time on shutdown.
So your windows shutdowns are better. -
I would love to switch completely to Linux, but I can't get internet in my uni with Linux so I have to stay with Windows...
-
penguin20148y@iAmNaN I have a gaming PC with an AMD card and it's running Ubuntu without an issue. You can choose between open source drivers and the official AMD linux proprietary driver - both of which work great.

For beginners, I like to point towards Korora. It's based on Fedora, so lots of support, but is more up to date than Ubuntu. As for DE, the Korora spins of KDE, XFCE, and Cinnamon are god tier (though I tend to stick to Cinnamon because it has the Windows hot keys).

@devRandom if the user who is a beginner used Windows previously then Linux Mint

@reflexgravity @devRandom
The problem with Mint is that its repositories are super old. That's why I recommend Korora over Mint -
-
Recommend Mint! Fedora user myself but seven years of Linux experience now so yeah

Want to switch to Linux so bad right now. Getting tired of Windows and its shit. It took 12 minutes just to shut down!!! I'm just holding back until I finish this project I'm working on for Uni so I don't mess things up. After that it's goodbye Windows!
What distro should I try first? ;)
undefined
goodbye windows
hello linux
