The more you learn languages like Javascript and Python, the more you realise that while every syntax differs, they're all essentially themes of the same if, else or and, type statements... This leads me to believe that with enough practice, it's possible to shortcut or pick up a new language progressively faster. Or am I just a melon?

    Yeah, this is act a real thing I've heard some pros talk about. If you master languages of different styles, after awhile you can learn nearly any language in only a week or so.

    As long as the langs are using sone sort of sane syntax, it is very easy to pick up a new one. Just don't try it with wierd ones like pyth, or jsfuck.

    @netroxen I just thought, even if you are a seasoned dev you would still have troubles learning brainfuck or whitespace.
